Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals ML (Game 1 of Doubleheader)

It is difficult to sweep both legs of a doubleheader, no matter how much of an advantage one team has over another. It becomes even more complicated when playing games in temperatures of 100 degrees, which is what the Pirates and Cardinals will do today. Because of that, expect each team to be cautious with who they play, and expect sluggers like Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado to get rest in at least one of these games. Thus, it will be essential to check lineups before making your wagers.

We like Pittsburgh’s chances to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak in the opener of this doubleheader as they face Cardinals rookie Matthew Liberatore (1-1, 5.54). Liberatore has allowed four earned runs in two of his three starts, including a 4.2-inning appearance in his MLB debut at Pittsburgh. Thus, the Pirates have an avenue to score runs, and it is only a matter of time before their Opening Day starter, JT Brubaker (0-6, 4.60), breaks through for his first win of the season. He ended May without allowing an earned run in his last 11.2 innings and has a better ERA (4.33) in his road starts this year.
