Thursday’s Best MLB Picks & Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Cincinnati Reds (+144) at Pittsburgh Pirates (-176) | O/U 7.0 (-120/-107) MLB Picks
The Reds are the prime example of having so much potential but being unable to meet expectations. They have a lot of young pitching talent and on offense, but they tend to be streaky. A perfect example is that they are coming into this game 4-5 over their last nine games.
Now they run into the buzzsaw that is Paul Skenes, who looks like the leading Cy Young candidate in the National League with a 2.07 ERA. The large problem for Skenes is that he gets no run support. He's averaging an abysmal 3.39 runs of support per game, including 10 starts where the Pirates scored two or fewer runs. The Reds will send up Brady Singer, who has allowed five runs to the Pirates in 10 innings this season.
We could see another exceptional start from Skenes go to waste. This could be a game where each team struggles to score.
Pick: Under 7.0 Runs (-107)
Miami Marlins (-121) at Atlanta Braves (+100) | O/U 8.5 (-104/-116) MLB Picks
Don't look now, but the Marlins are one of the hottest teams in baseball. They are 12-6 since returning from the All-Star break. While they're a long way away from being a legitimate playoff contender, they could get there if they continue to play well.
Eury Perez has hit the ground running since returning from Tommy John surgery with a 2.70 ERA. That repaired arm looks excellent, especially with the velocity, as his 97.8 miles per hour (MPH) fastball is in the 94th percentile.
We'll take that against an Atlanta offense that has struggled all season and that might be playing their worst baseball of the year. They've dropped 13 of their last 17 games and are 21st in runs scored during this time.
Pick: Marlins Moneyline (-121)
