U.S. Open Odds & Picks: Best Round 3 Futures Bets

Thomas Detry

The 2024 U.S. Open has delivered on its difficulty, while also providing great entertainment value, as several of the biggest names in golf sit atop the leaderboard heading into Round 3.

Ludvig Åberg, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama, and Xander Schauffele are all inside of the top ten, vying for the coveted U.S. Open trophy. DeChambeau has looked dominant in every major this season, while Åberg’s continuous ability to find fairways and hit greens in regulation is the main reason the 24-year-old Swede sits alone in first-place at 5-under-par.

In this article, we’re focusing on a couple of the best Round 3 futures bets to place ahead of Saturday’s tee times. Follow me on X @Matt_MacKay_ for more free plays and PGA Tour best bets throughout the week.

Thomas Detry Under 73.5 Round 3 Score (-140)

Belgian golfer, Thomas Detry, is one of the more surprising names to find atop the leaderboard after two rounds. He’s among the best putters on the PGA Tour, which he’s continued to do at Pinehurst this week, however, Detry also ranks 10th for strokes gained: approach, which is a welcome sign for his game.

Detry’s putting has been outrageously good, gaining 2.63 strokes with the flat stick, good enough to be third behind only Harris English and Matthieu Pavon. As long as his irons continue to cooperate and finds fairways at over an 80 percent rate, Detry is in the driver’s seat to finish 3-over-par or lower in Round 3. It’s a bit juiced at -140 odds, but oddsmakers are undervaluing what we’ve seen from him thus far.

One unit staked on Detry’s Round Score of under 73.5 in Round 3 of the U.S. Open futures market is advised.

Sepp Straka Under 72.5 Round 3 Score (-115)

Sepp Straka is another European golfer who has his round score prop set a bit too high in this futures market. The Austrian has gone even par and 2-over-par thus far and he’s T4 for fairways hit, sitting at a scorching 86 percent rate.

Straka is also T7 for finding greens in regulation at 69 percent, giving himself a chance to convert birdies and pars. While mediocre off-the-tee in terms of strokes gained, he’s not hitting the tricky wire grass sand that comprises the rough at Pinehurst No. 2 very often. By ranking eighth in strokes gained on approach, his weaknesses around the green and putting can be countered enough to go 2-over-par or lower for a third consecutive round.

One unit wagered at -115 odds is enough to return good value on Straka’s round score prop in the futures market, which is currently set to -115 odds.
