Tyson Pedro vs. Anton Turkalj
Kicking off the UFC 293 main card is a Light Heavyweight bout between Tyson Pedro and Anton Turkalj.
For fellow fans of grappling and strong wrestling, this fight is the one for you on this card. Turkalj is a grappling machine, Evident by his Dana White’s Contender Series victory over Acacio Dos Santos, which earned him a UFC contract.
In that fight, Turkalj recorded a ridiculous 11 takedowns on 16 attempts while amassing nearly 12 minutes of control time. However, he then got thrown to the fire in his official UFC debut against Jailton Almeida, who is likely to be a future title contender in the heavyweight division.
Turkalj was then tasked with taking on the undefeated Vitor Petrino, a fight he lost via unanimous decision. There is no denying that Turkalj was thrown to the wolves in his first two UFC bouts, but he now gets the opportunity to truly display his potential in a much more even match against Pedro.
Pedro will have the advantage on the feet. Still, Turkalj should be able to dominate in the grappling/wrestling exchanges, which we should expect to see at some point, given Pedro’s relatively average takedown defense. So, if this fight gets to the mat, then there is certainly a chance that Turkalj finishes this bout via submission, making nearly 6/1 a proposition worth taking.
We saw Pedro fall to Ovince St. Preux by straight armlock, while two of Turkalj’s past eight wins have come via submission.
The Pick: Anton Turkalj via Submission (+575)
