New York Liberty (-340) at Dallas Wings (+260) | O/U 173.5 (-110/-110)
The Liberty (19-10) travel to meet the Wings (8-22) on Friday night at College Park Arena in Arlington, and this will be the third time these teams have met just since July 28th.
In the front end of the home-and-home set, New York picked up an 85-76 victory, but Dallas posted the cover as an 11.5-point underdog as the under (176.5) cashed. The Liberty is still just 2-4 straight up (SU) across the past six games, while going 0-5-1 against the spread (ATS). The under has cashed in each of the past three games, too.
New York has split the season series with Dallas so far, losing 92-82 in the first trip to Arlington on July 28th, coming nowhere near covering as an 8-point favorite as the over (173) cashed.
The Wings have dropped three straight games, while going 1-5 SU in the past six outings. However, Dallas has covered in three of the past four games, while cashing low in each of the past two outings.
Dallas is catching eight points on its home court, and New York is very banged up. Breanna Stewart continues to sit, while Kennedy Burke and Nyara Sabally are also sidelined. As an underdog of 6.5 or more points, the Wings have covered three in a row, while going 5-1 ATS in the past six. Let’s back the Wings catching the points, and we’ll go low on the total based on the trends.
Picks: Wings +8 (-110) & Under 173.5 Points (-110)
Washington Mystics (+410) at Minnesota Lynx (-590) | O/U 157.5 (-108/-112)
The Mystics (13-16) and Lynx (25-6) get together at Target Center in Minneapolis, and we have two teams going in opposite directions.
Washington parted ways with Aaliyah Edwards, shipping her to the Connecticut Sun, while acquiring Jacy Sheldon. She isn’t expected to be ready for Friday, so Washington will be shorthanded. They also shipped Brittney Sykes to Seattle for Alysha Clark and Zia Cooke, as the Mystics are in full rebuild mode.
The Lynx will be without Napheesa Collier, as she is dealing with a multi-week ankle injury. It will be up to the likes of Kayla McBride (14.8 points per game, 3.4 assists per game, 2.5 rebounds per game) and Courtney Williams (13.9 points per game, 6.4 assists per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, 1.4 steals per game) to fill the void, and then some. DiJonai Carrington also should help the team in just her second game since coming over in a trade from the Wings.
Washington has dropped three in a row, while going 2-6 SU in the past eight games. The Mystics are also 2-6 ATS in the same eight-game span, while cashing low in four of the past six outings.
Minnesota is a little tougher to handicap without Collier, but the Lynx have still won three in a row, while going 7-1 SU in the past eight games. They are 6-1-1 ATS in the eight-game span, too, while cashing the over in six straight, and nine of the past 10 games.
Let’s back the Lynx to get the job done, while going high on the total based on Minnesota’s trends.
Picks: Lynx -10.5 (-112) & Over 157.5 Points (-110)
The Storm (16-14) and Aces (16-14) are tied in the standings, so this is a big game. These teams have met three times this season, with Seattle going 2-1 SU/ATS in the first three meetings, while the over has cashed in two of three.
In the only previous battle at Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on June 20th, Seattle won 90-83 as a 3-point underdog as the over (160.5) cashed. Nneka Ogwumike rolled up 25 points with 12 rebounds, while Gabby Williams went for 18 points and 12 boards in that victory.
In the loss to the Storm on June 20th, A’ja Wilson was good for 20 points, 14 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals across 34 minutes. She is averaging 18 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocked shots per game in three meetings against Seattle this season.
Seattle acquired Brittney Sykes, and it is uncertain if she’ll be able to make her debut today. Officially, she is a game-time decision. She is needed, as the Storm have dropped three in a row while going 0-3 ATS in the span. The over is 3-1 in the past four games, as the defense has allowed 85+ points in three of those four outings.
Las Vegas swept a home-and-home with the Golden State Valkyries, while going 4-1 SU/ATS in the past five games. The over is 4-2 in the past six outings.
We’ll side with the Aces on their home court, while going high on the total.
Picks: Aces -1 (-112) & Over 163.5 Points (-110)
