Thursday's Best WNBA Picks & Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Los Angeles Sparks (+195) vs. Indiana Fever (-5.5) | O/U 167.5 (-108/-112)
When you think about how the Fever fared when Caitlin Clark missed time earlier in the season (2-3), it is fair to be concerned about tonight's game since a groin injury has her sidelined. However, while she was on the court against Seattle, her contributions were minimal; yet, the team still managed to beat one of the better squads in the WNBA (Seattle, 94-86).
Look for Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell to take over this game, much like they did in the Seattle game. But the Sparks’ defense is nothing compared to the Storm's, so expect a wider margin of victory.
Boston is averaging 15.9 points per game this season, a number she surpassed just three times in her first 11 games. But she is coming off a 31-point outing against Seattle and has scored 17+ points in her last three games. With how well she's been shooting over the previous week and with Clark sidelined, it would not be shocking to see her cruise past 15.5 points against a lackluster Sparks defense.
Picks: Fever -5.5 (-110) & Aliyah Boston Over 15.5 Points (-105)
Washington Mystics (+8) vs. Las Vegas Aces (-395) | O/U 160 (-112/-108)
Both teams are playing decent basketball right now, and both will enter this contest on two-game winning streaks. When they played back on May 23rd, Las Vegas came from behind in the fourth to steal the win, 75-72. Vegas was expected to be much better coming into the season than they had played. But fans have to wonder if the dominant win over the Sun was an isolated event or if the team has finally put it all together.
The Aces should win this game. They have the better players and much more talent, but they've still struggled to take control of games they should win (hence their 7-7 record). Should the Mystics bring their 'A' game, Vegas still wins but fails to cover. If Washington struggles, the Aces should win with ease.
I don't have a ton of confidence in Las Vegas right now; the win over Connecticut was nice, but everyone is beating the Sun this year. So I'm going with Washington and the points.
Kiki Iriafen is averaging 8.8 rebounds per game this season and pulled down 11 her last time out (Tuesday vs. Minnesota). But before that game, she had gone five in a row with fewer than 7.5 rebounds. However, she is averaging 10.4 per game on the road. Against an Aces defense that opponents are pulling down 35+ rebounds per game (11th in the league), her chances of getting at least a look are pretty good.
Picks: Mystics +8 (-110) & Kiki Iriafen Over 7.5 Rebounds (-118)
