Tuesday’s Best WNBA Picks & Predictions

(Odds Courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Phoenix Mercury at Minnesota Lynx

The Lynx started off this series with a decisive victory in Game 1. It was an 82-69 win where the Mercury shot only 3-of-23 from deep and only attempted four free throws. Minnesota dominated the boards and although they shot below their averages from the field, they held the Mercury off easily.

Minnesota covered in the game which was their fourth cover in the five matchups between these two teams. The most common theme in those games was the low point totals. This season series hasn't seen a pregame total more than 160 but these games have gone 5-0 to the Under and average falling ten points below the total.

These outcomes shouldn't come as a surprise. Both Minnesota and Phoenix are top five teams in DRtg, eFG% allowed and defensive turnover rate. They're two teams that are very adept at forcing misses and ending possessions without a shot attempt. Why fix what isn't broken here? With such a large spread, I'm going to stay away from a side and just take the Under.

Pick: Under 159.5 Total Points (-112)

Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces

Don't look now but the shorthanded Indiana Fever are looking to take a 2-0 lead back to Indiana in the WNBA Semifinals. After losing Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham for the season, many prognosticators wrote the Fever off. All they've done is win three of four games against the Dream and Aces, two of the hottest teams in the league.

The Fever managed to take Game 1 in stunning fashion with an impressive offensive performance. Indiana shot 34-of-68 from the field and managed to make 16 of their 17 free throw attempts. They were a strong offensive team all season and though they performed over their season averages, they should still find some success.

Las Vegas is the team that needs to change things up. The Fever have been a bit of a kryptonite to an offense that has otherwise been elite since early July. The Fever have managed to hold the Aces to 73 or less points in each of their last three matchups, all of which were Fever covers and wins. With a massive spread again I'll back the Fever, but I'll also play the Under in a head-to-head series that is 4-0 to the Under this year.

Pick: Fever +9.5 (-115) & Under 165.5 Total Points (-110)
