Wednesday’s Best WNBA Picks & Bets

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Golden State Valkyries at Indiana Fever

Caitlin Clark is expected to return Wednesday after a significant absence due to a groin injury. With the oft-injured Clark out of the lineup this season, the Fever have stumbled a bit out of the gate with a 9-9 straight up (SU) and 9-9 against the spread (ATS) record. They'll take on one of the best storylines of the season so far in Golden State.

The Valkyries have surprised a lot of people with their 9-9 SU record and 11-7 ATS mark. They've mostly been a dominant ATS force at home, going 8-2. On the road is a different story, though. Golden State is just 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS away from home, and they'll have to battle those road demons on Wednesday in Indiana.

The Valkyries have given up 9.8 points per game (PPG) more on the road than at home. They'll have a tough time taking on an elite Indiana offense that shoots over 37% from deep at home and scores 87.2 PPG. With Clark returning to the lineup against a team that struggles on the road, I like the home Fever to take care of business.

Pick: Fever -8.5 (-110)

Minnesota Lynx at Phoenix Mercury

The Lynx continue their scorching start with a trip to Phoenix. This will be the third matchup between these two, with the Lynx winning both of the first two. The story of both of those games was the defense. This is no surprise since both of these teams rank in the top five in defensive rating.

The Lynx lead the league in opponents' effective field goal rate (eFG%) while the Mercury force the highest rate of turnovers. Minnesota turned the ball over 20.5 times per game in these two matchups, well over the 12.6 turnovers per game they average. Despite this, Minnesota has dominated the season series because the Mercury have not been able to shoot effectively against this vaunted defense. They've shot just 38.9% from the field, including 14.3% from deep, against the Lynx this year.

These are the two best teams in the WNBA's Western Conference, and their defenses have been elite. We've seen that in both games between the two, as both went under their projected totals. I don't expect anything different here, and I'll be taking the under again.

Pick: Under 160.5 Points (-112)

Dallas Wings at Chicago Sky

The Sky continued their incredible ATS hot streak with a cover against the Mystics on Tuesday. They'll play again in a back-to-back on Wednesday as they host the Dallas Wings. The Wings have had an up-and-down season, but they have a talented offense led by Paige Bueckers. Unfortunately, Arike Ogunbowale and DiJonai Carrington are both out for this game, meaning Bueckers will need to carry more of the load.

Chicago's improved offense, led by a stellar run by Angel Reese, will be the biggest factor in this game. They've scored 83.5 PPG during this 6-0 ATS run, nearly five more points than their season average. The Sky should have plenty of success against a poor defensive Dallas squad that ranks near the bottom in defensive rating.

Chicago has already had success against Dallas. With wins of 97-92 and 94-83, the Sky both won and covered in the previous matchups. I don't expect much to be different with two of the Wings’ biggest offensive threats out. I'll be backing the hottest ATS team in the league to add to their total with a cover and outright win on Wednesday night in Chicago.

Pick: Sky -1 (-110)
