WNBA Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (8/13)

There are four strong WNBA games on Wednesday’s slate. With so many teams in action, there are plenty of opportunities for sides and totals with some value. Here are a few of my favorite WNBA bets on the board.

Wednesday’s Best WNBA Picks & Bets

(Odds Courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Chicago Sky at Connecticut Sun

This is far from the most intriguing game on the schedule. Anyway you slice it, these are the two worst teams in the league. They've posted the two worst offenses by offensive rating and defenses by defensive rating, and it hasn't been particularly close. What angle can we pursue in such an unexciting game?

Connecticut has only been a favorite in one other game this season; they were 1.5-point favorites the last time they hosted the Sky. That one didn't work out too well for them, losing 78-66. The Sun are slightly larger favorites on Wednesday, and that makes sense since the Sky will be without Angel Reese and Ariel Atkins is a game-time decision.

The Sky have been in a funk recently. They're just 1-10 against the spread (ATS) in their last 11 and 1-10 straight up (SU). However, it's been quite a difficult schedule. They've had multiple games against Minnesota, Indiana and Atlanta in that stretch as well as meetings with Phoenix, Seattle and Golden State, who are trending towards the playoffs. They won and covered against the only under .500 team they played in Washington. The Sky are not playing well and will be short-handed, but the Sun shouldn't be favorites over anyone in the league.

Pick: Sky +2.5 (-110)

Golden State Valkyries at Washington Mystics

This will be the third matchup of the season between Golden State and Washington. The Valkyries won and covered in both games, although the Mystics were favored in each. The Valkyries likely have some value as the underdog here, but there is another angle I'm looking to play.

Both of these teams play at a slow pace. The Valkyries clock in at the slowest in the league, at 75.6 possessions per 40 minutes, while the Mystics are slightly below league average (77.7 possessions per 40 minutes). This slow pace has played itself out in both games between these teams so far this season. The first game ended up at 150 points while the second finished with just 135.

Golden State’s defense has been strong recently, including a game against the red-hot Sparks where they held the prolific offense to 59 points and a 32.8% field-goal rate. They should have no issue holding the Mystics to a similar total. With the glacial pace the Valkyries like to play at, this one should turn into a slog. Even with this low total, I'll be playing the under.

Pick: Under 148.5 Points (-110)
