The new WNBA season kicks off this evening with three games. The players are finally set to hit the court after an off-season filled with so much off-court coverage due to collective bargaining negotiations. Here are some of our favorite WNBA player props for Friday, May 8th.

Jonquel Jones 9+ Rebounds (-129)

The New York Liberty open the season at home against a Connecticut team playing under an extremely uncertain future. If all reports are true, the Connecticut Sun will relocate to Houston following this season. Connecticut does not have much to play for in 2026, which creates a ton of opportunities for opponents when it comes to counting props.

Brittney Griner was originally considered for this selection. However, her rebounds line dropped from 8.5 to 6.5, with a payout of -145. It all went bad, very fast. We have pivoted to a somewhat lower level of juice. Nine is a scary number. However, we feel there may be a small edge on Jonquel Jones’ rebounding prop.

Jones closed out the 2025 season, averaging 8.1 boards. The Liberty forward did the most damage on the defensive glass and grabbed over six boards per game. New York's defense is highly functional, and it's not difficult to envision the Liberty forcing the Sun into tough looks at the basket. Beyond Griner and Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Connecticut does not have much size to speak of, which should open the door for offensive rebounding opportunities for Jones.

Breanna Stewart 20+ Points (-119)

As previously stated, Connecticut may be on the verge of another disappointing season. While still featuring a solid core of young talent from the previous two drafts, the Sun go into the season as heavy underdogs. The Sun closed out the season with five straight losses, and Breanna Stewart could prove to be a remarkable option for points this evening.

Stewart finished the 2025 season averaging 18.1 points per game. The veteran forward scored 20 points in 30 minutes in the preseason. Sabrina Ionescu will miss tonight's contest due to a foot injury, which will greatly open up opportunities for Stewart to stack points. The UConn product will more than likely be the top offensive option for the Liberty in this game.

Stewart scored 20+ points in 12 games last season. Given the expected bump in usage and shot volume, Stewart looks to be in a fantastic spot to start off the 2026 season with a 20-point performance against the Connecticut Sun.

Kiki Iriafen Under 25.5 + Points + Rebounds + Assists (-125)

If not for the Washington Mystics drafting Lauren Betts with their first pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, Kiki Iriafen's season would have had a tremendously different outlook. The 26 total for this combo prop is way more indicative of sole ownership of the Washington front court.

While you have a few options to consider for Iriafen, the most logical would be to take the under on the highest total. Oddsmakers have set the line to mirror a double-double this evening, which comes across as aggressive. The young forward is also very capable of picking up fouls, which will obviously impact playing time. Iriafen picked up five fouls in 16 minutes in her only preseason action against Atlanta.

Betts is surely going to take away some rebounds, and Washington has one of the best scoring tandems at the guard position in the WNBA. While we understand the thinking that Iriafen scored 11 points with four boards in only 16 minutes of preseason action, we simply do not think that's a direct comparison of how the talented second-year player will perform tonight.

H2H Player Points - Veronica Burton vs. Dominique Malonga: Veronica Burton (+140)

This selection returns the highest profit of our props today. Dominique Malonga will no doubt be an integral piece of Seattle's offense this season. Having said that, Veronica Burton could be the better option in what could be a contest that features a ton of scoring.

Burton scored 14 points in 14 minutes against the Seattle Storm in the preseason matchup between these two teams. Burton looked confident from beyond the arc - knocking in four of her seven attempts above the perimeter. Malonga scored 10 points in each preseason contest.

While the Storm center may be the favorite, Burton's three-point prowess gives the young guard the edge in this points matchup against Malonga. If Burton is going to knock down four baskets from deep again, this could be our favorite pick of the bunch.

Natisha Hiedeman Under 15+ Points (-115)

We close out the evening with a bit of a speculation pick. Having said that, something is clearly off when you scroll through the proposed counting stat props on DraftKings Sportsbook for this game regarding Natisha Hiedeman. You always have to question why certain props are not available for a specific player, especially when they are listed as one of the top scoring options of the night.

After playing backup to Courtney Williams last season, Hiedeman gets a well-deserved opportunity to run the offense in Seattle. Hiedeman played one preseason contest and contributed zero points in 14 minutes on the floor. The veteran guard averaged a career-high 9.1 points last season for Minnesota while playing just fewer than 19 points per game.

The implication is that Hiedeman will score more, considering the opportunity. However, this is not the same team, and certainly not the same offense. It remains to be seen how the fiery guard at the helm of Seattle will perform this season. What we can say for certain is that the 15 points are highly ambitious despite the possible increase in playing time and role.
