Dallas Wings at Chicago Sky

  • Leg 1: Chicago Sky -5 (-112)
  • Leg 2: Over 161 Total Points (-106)
  • Leg 3: Angel Reese To Record 10+ Rebounds (-182)

The Wings (3-10) and Sky (4-9) tangle in an early-window game on Thursday afternoon at Wintrust Arena, and you’ll have to catch this battle on WNBA’s League Pass if you want to view it, as it isn’t televised nationally.

These teams opened the season in a back-to-back set in the Metroplex, with the Wings winning the regular-season opener 87-79 on May 15 to barely cover a 7.5-point spread at most shops while the Over (162) connected. In the rematch, rookie Angel Reese and the Sky earned their first win of the season with an 83-74 victory as a 4.5-point underdog as the Under (165) held on.

Now, the Wings will have to contend with rookie Kamilla Cardoso, who was injured for that back-to-back set. The rookie center has managed 8.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 48.9% from the field in just over 22 minutes per contest.

The Wings started the season 3-2 straight up (SU), but they’ve been in freefall since May 31, dropping eight straight outings. Dallas did grab a cover in the 90-78 loss at Minnesota last time out as a 14.5-point underdog, snapping an 0-6 against the spread (ATS) skid. The Over is 3-1 in the past four games while going 5-2 across the past seven, and 7-3 in the previous 10 outings, too.

Dallas is actually a pretty decent shooting team at 44.1% from the field, although it is dismal from downtown, hitting just 28.8% to rank dead-last in the W. The Wings are a solid free throw shooting team, hitting 83.7% to rank 3rd. Defensively, the Wings hold teams to 31.4% from downtown, but they’ve allowed 86.2 PPG to rank 11th in the league.

Chicago is experiencing a swoon of its own lately, dropping four in a row, and six of the past seven games. The Sky have failed to cover the past four, while going 1-6 ATS in the previous seven showings, too, so something’s gotta give here.

The Over is on a 4-0 run for the Sky, as the offense has piled up 79 or more points in four of the past five games, while the defense has coughed up 83 or more points in four straight, and five of the past six outings.

We’ll back the Sky at home laying the points, while it’s a good idea to go Over, although it wouldn’t be shocking to see a bit of a sluggish start with the early tip time.

As we’ll keep it super simple, getting your parlay to exactly +400. Let’s roll with Reese to snag at least 10 boards. The Bayou Barbie has snagged at least 10 rebounds in all seven games in June, and eight of her past nine games overall.

Los Angeles Sparks at New York Liberty

  • Leg 1: New York Liberty -14.5 (-112)
  • Leg 2: Under 164 Total Points (-110)
  • Leg 3: Betnijah Laney-Hamilton To Score 10+ Points (-310)
  • Leg 4: Rickea Jackson Over 3.5 Rebounds (-158)
  • Leg 4: Breanna Stewart Over 19.5 Points (-115)

In the late game, we’ll get a little more creative. The Sparks (4-11) play the front end of a back-to-back set with the Liberty (12-3), and it’s the fifth stop on a seven-game road trip. It’s been a costly trip for the Sparks, too, as rookie center Cameron Brink suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in Tuesday’s 79-70 loss at Connecticut, and she’ll miss representing the United States in the Paris Olympics, as her WNBA rookie season is now over.

With Brink out of commission, it appears that the Sparks will have to rely upon Li Yeuru in the middle. The Chinese import is averaging 5.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game while hitting 50.0% from the field in limited action off the bench.

The Sparks have dropped four in a row to start the road trip, although they’re a respectable 2-2 ATS in the four games. The Under has cashed in the previous three outings, with the team averaging just 73.4 PPG, although they’ve allowed 79 or more points in each of the previous five contests.

For the Liberty, they’re glad to be back enjoying some home cooking. The Lib split a pair of games in Las Vegas and Phoenix, losing 99-93 to the Mercury at Footprint Center on Tuesday as a 5-point favorite. The Over (171.5) easily cashed in that one, which is now 3-1 in the past four games. Despite the loss and non-cover, New York is still a rather healthy 5-2 ATS in the past seven outings.

New York continues to get solid play from their big three plus one. Breanna Stewart leads the team in scoring with 19.2 PPG, while also leading with 9.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Sabrina Ionescu is right on her heels with 17.7 PPG while pacing the team with 6.1 assists per contest. She is also draining threes at a 33.9% clip. Meanwhile, Jonquel Jones has 16.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, and 3.0 APG, while hitting triples at a 43.3% clip. Don’t sleep on Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who has managed 12.1 PPG with 4.5 RPG and 3.5 APG herself. Courtney Vandersloot is also a key contributor with 7.6 PPG, 5.3 APG, and 3.8 RPG in just over 26 minutes per contest.

While the Sparks are 4-1 ATS this season against the spread as a double-digit underdog, it remains to be seen how the team responds without Brink. The Under is 7-2 in the past nine games, but the defense was helped out with Brink blocking 2.3 shots per game while gumming up the paint. Yes, Yeuru is solid, but can she shoulder most of the load and elevate her game even further? That remains to be seen.

New York is just 1-6 ATS in seven games at home, however, while going 1-7 ATS this season as a double-digit favorite. It’s a good idea to back the shorthanded Sparks catching the points, and that’s good as a straight-up play, as well as part of your SGP while rolling low on the total.

We’ll back Laney-Hamilton to get into double digits in the points category while taking rookie Rickea Jackson to shoulder some of the load up front is a good idea. Over 3.5 Rebounds seems like a slam-dunk play for the former Vols standout. In addition, B-Stew is a good player to go Over her points threshold, as she’ll have a field day against an inexperienced and banged-up Los Angeles frontcourt, taking it to the cup early and often.
