Money is 3/1 on the Buccaneers point spread vs. the Cowboys

In advance of tonight's season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 79% of the handle and 76% of the bets are on the favored Buccaneers' point spread, per DraftKings.

Betting Impact:

The one-sided action has been happening all week, as it is a big reason the spread opened at -7.5 points and jumped to -8.5. The trends support the favored Buccaneers as the right side, as defending champions are 14-2 straight up since 2004 in their opening game, and are 10-2-2 ATS in their last 14 games when opening the season at home on a Thursday night. The last time a defending champion lost outright in Week 1 in such a scenario was in 2017 when the Patriots were beaten 42-27 by the Chiefs. Needless to say, with these drastic betting splits, DraftKings and likely other sportsbooks will be rooting hard for the Cowboys.
