With the 2023 Valero Texas Open in the rearview mirror, we now look forward to this week’s Masters Tournament. As always, Augusta National will host this iconic event.
Augusta is a par-72, 7,545-yard track that rewards the best ball strikers and those who can work their way around the green. Looking at the top of previous leaderboards, the two metrics that predict the most success at this tournament are SG: Tee to Green and SG: Around the Green.
Below, I will give out my best bets to make and miss the cut at the 2023 Masters Tournament.

2023 Masters Tournament: Best Bets to Make/Miss the Cut
Odds via BetRivers Sportsbook. These plays are 1u each or 1% of your betting bankroll.
Chris Kirk to Make the Cut (-223)
While it is a bit juicy in terms of price, these odds are too good to pass up on Chris Kirk to make the cut at Augusta. Playing the best golf of his career this season, Kirk currently sits in seventh place in the FedEx Cup Standings and has moved up to 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Entering this week in outstanding form, Kirk has made six of his last eight cuts. Of those six made-cuts, he boasts four top-10 finishes, including his victory at The Honda Classic at the end of February.
With his stellar greenside work, Kirk ranks 12th on TOUR this season in SG: Around the Green. Meanwhile, his ball striking is also excellent, ranking 32nd in SG: Tee to Green.
Through three career appearances here, Kirk has made the cut twice. Considering that he is currently playing the best golf of his career, there is no reason to believe that he will not do so once again.
Sam Burns to Miss the Cut (+275)
While I am personally a big fan of Sam Burns’ game, now is the time to sell high on the Louisiana native. Coming off two incredible performances at the Valspar Championship (sixth place) and the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play event (won), his play this season may not translate well at Augusta.
The two main reasons for his success this season are his driver and putter, two clubs that are obviously important at Augusta but not nearly as much as the iron game and greenside play. On TOUR this season, Burns ranks just 114th in SG: Tee to Green and 73rd in SG: Around the Green.
Prior to those strong finishes at the Valspar and WGC Dell, Burns missed two of his last three cuts at The Genesis Invitational and Arnold Palmer Invitational. Burns made his Masters debut last season, missing the cut after going 75-74 on Thursday and Friday.
Considering his concerning iron play this season, it would not be shocking to see Burns miss the cut again, making +275 an intriguing proposition.
Best of luck!
