Overview

The offense is finally beginning to hit its groove under Kyler Murray, winning back-to-back games and totaling 956 yards in the two games. The running game is still inconsistent at best, but Murray using his legs is opening up some running lanes for David Johnson and Chase Edmonds. However, this offense mostly relies on the short pass and the athleticism after the catch. Defensively, the Cardinals have really struggled, giving up nearly 300 yards through the air and another 132.8 per game on the ground. However, this is finally the week this defense gets star corner, Patrick Peterson, back. This will not be the solution to their problems, but he certainly provides talent and playmaking ability to a secondary that is lacking both characteristics.

The Giants played with a skeleton crew last week, but they are expected to have both Saquon Barkley and Evan Engram healthy for this game, which gives the offense their two best players back. Barkley is the best running back in the league, averaging 6.4 yards per rush this season. Engram leads the team in receiving yards (373) and is a matchup nightmare at the tight end position due to being too fast for linebackers and too big for most safeties. The Cardinals have also been the worst in the league against tight ends by far, pointing to a big day for Engram. These playmakers help rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, but he still looked decent last week against the Patriots without them, which is as good of a compliment I can give a rookie quarterback against New England. Defensively, it’s no secret that this secondary is terrible, giving up over 300 yards through the air per game.

Halftime Result/Fulltime Result: New York Giants – New York Giants (+200)
The Cardinals have started most games slow this season, forcing the offense to play catch-up late in the game. They are also still expected to be without receiver Christian Kirk, which is good news for the Giants’ secondary. The return of the Giants’ playmakers is what gets them out to an early lead in this game, with Barkley getting to face a defense that gives up 132.8 rushing yards per game despite facing the Falcons and Bengals (two poor running teams) the past two weeks.

Bottom Line

Coming off extra days of rest to play at home, the Giants get the benefit of health in this matchup. The offensive line is also playing well for the Giants, allowing Daniel Jones to be sacked just 10 times. With him getting protection up front, the combination of the running game with Barkley and the play-action with Engram and Golden Tate will be enough to lift the Giants over the Cardinals.

Pick: New York Giants -3
