Big3 Picks & Predictions: Saturday (8/15)

On Saturday, the top four teams in the Big3 will compete in two postseason games, with a trip to the championship game on the line. Below, I explain why Dallas is being undervalued in what I expect to be a high-scoring game against the 305. Then, I highlight why the contest between the Triplets and Ball Hogs won't be as close as oddsmakers think. Here are the best Big3 picks for the Big3 four this weekend’s playoff slate.

Dallas Power vs. Miami 305

I understand that the 305 defeated the Power earlier this season. However, the Power finished the regular season 7-1, while the 305 went just 4-4. The 305 are hot right now, winning three of their last four games, but the Power are being incredibly undervalued entering this contest.

When these two teams met in Week 5, the 305 jumped out to a 25-15 lead. The Power then surged in the second half before ultimately falling 51-44. The 305's Michael Beasley scored 27 points in that game, as he and Lance Stephenson combined for 43 points.

The 305 are completely reliant on Beasley and Stephenson, while the Power have a much more well-rounded team. Greg Monroe leads the league in rebounds, and he finished seventh in scoring. Meanwhile, Elijah Stewart finished fifth in the league in scoring. Stewart only scored 12 against the 305 when they met in the regular season. Still, the Power were competitive. If Stewart plays as he did throughout the majority of the season, the Power should win outright.

With the best record in the league, it's no surprise that the Power are the highest-scoring Big3 team. They finished the year with 396 points, averaging 49.5 per game. However, even though I expect the Power to win this game, the main reason I like this over is the 305.

The 305 lost four games this season, yet they still averaged 47 points per game. This is a team that hasn't scored fewer than 47 points since Week 3. And for as good as the Power's defense has been, allowing just 323 points all season, the 305 have already proven they can reach 50 against them.

Picks: Power +2.5 (-115) & Over 93.5 Points (-115)

Chicago Triplets vs. Boston Ball Hogs

When the Triplets and Ball Hogs met earlier this season, the Triplets won a thriller, 53-51. Considering the Ball Hogs also have the league's leading scorer (Jeremy Pargo), it may be tempting to back the Ball Hogs as small underdogs here. However, I think this spread is a trap.

When these two teams met earlier this season, Chicago’s leading scorer Montrezl Harrell didn't play. Harrell scored 153 points this season, the second-most in the league, despite playing only five games. He finished the regular season averaging 30.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. To put it frankly, when he's on the court, he's unstoppable.

Neither the Ball Hogs nor the Triplets provide great support for their star players. And while the stats are slightly better for Pargo's teammates, I think that Harrell is more likely to take over this game and dominate.

Pick: Triplets -2.5 (-110)
