(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Aaron Judge (+160), Gleyber Torres (+425) & Jazz Chisholm (+500)
The Yankees took care of business in last night's series opener, cruising to a 5-2 victory over the Nationals. They've now won five of their last six games. The two sides are back at it tonight in the nation's capital in a pitching matchup between Gerrit Cole and Patrick Corbin. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET from Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Honestly, there's enough data here that supports an entire article's worth of analysis on Yankees players to go yard tonight. The Bronx Bombers have reclaimed the top spot in the league as home runs kings, where they've launched 206 nukes this season. New York gets a favorable matchup tonight against Corbin, who continues to struggle this season. The left-hander enters the new week at 3-12 with a 5.73 ERA (62nd) and a 1.54 WHIP (61st). His HR/9 rate is 1.27, which isn't outrageously high, but is still slightly elevated.
New York has crushed Corbin in the past, as the current roster is slashing .325/.383/.726 against him over 117 at-bats. That equates to a team OPS of 1.109 over a sizable 117 at-bats. Specifically, Gleyber Torres is 4-for-9 (.444) against the southpaw with a couple of bombs. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is 2-for-5 (.400) with a home run and a triple, while Aaron Judge is 1-for-8 (.125) with a solo home run.
All three of these Yankees are primed to touch’em all tonight. For Judge, he's always a threat to go yard, and that holds up on the stat sheet as he has launched a league-leading 51 home runs this season. As for Torres, he just hit his 12th dinger of the year last night and has looked a lot better since moving into the leadoff spot for New York. Chisholm also homered last night, bringing him to 21 home runs on the year. I think it's worth a flier on all three of these guys to go deep tonight.
Manny Machado (+400)
The Padres won last night's series opener 7-4. It was a much-needed victory as they try to keep pace with the red-hot Dodgers and Diamondbacks in the National League West. San Diego's rotation turns over, which means Dylan Cease will toe the rubber tonight. The Cardinals opt for Miles Mikolas in this National League tilt, which is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO.
Mikolas has had an up-and-down season, but overall, his numbers suggest it's been a rough year. The 36-year-old sits at 8-10 with a 5.19 ERA (61st) and a 1.26 WHIP (47th). As for the home run numbers, Mikolas owns a 1.25 HR/9 rate, which is the 13th-highest among today's starting pitchers.
Manny Machado had a monster night last night, going 2-4 with a home run and three RBI. I'll take a flier on Machado to go deep for a second straight night. He's up to 21 home runs this year, which is 42nd in the Majors. Against Mikolas, he's just 3-for-14 (.214), but he does have a home run and a double. Machado has three bombs in his last nine games, so he's finding his form as we near the end of the season. Let's back Machado to touch’em all.
