Los Angeles Angels at Cleveland Guardians – 1:10 ET
This may seem like a tired storyline, but we are taking another stab at the Guardians cannot hit lefties well. Patrick Sandoval has been one of the better pitchers in baseball, with an ERA of around three despite just getting five wins this season. His one flaw has been a high walk total which can make this dicey, but as we discussed yesterday with the Guardians, their offense is just brutal against left-handed pitching.
The other side of this game is Cal Quantrill, who has a 3.50 ERA and twelve wins. He does not walk many hitters and is allowing a little over a homer per nine. His lack of strikeouts makes his estimators hate him much more than his actual results, but we just need him to be good enough to get through the first unscathed.

New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox – 7:10 ET
Nestor Cortes is slated to make his second start since returning from the IL tonight against the Red Sox. Cortes has been excellent this season, especially early in games. He has allowed a wOBA of 0.236 the first time through the order. The issue here is that the Red Sox do have a top 10 offense by wRC+ against lefties. He will need to get through the top end of this order without allowing much damage but based on how good his 2022 season has been, I am confident he can do so.
For the Red Sox, Brayan Bello will be taking the mound. His results have not looked pretty, but his biggest issue has been walks. Actually, his K numbers have been solid, but the 4.5 BB/9 has been the killer. However, he has generated a ton of ground balls and thus far has not allowed any long balls. Based on the last few weeks for the Yankees, they do their damage mostly via the long ball. His wildness may play into his favor to avoid Aaron Judge taking him deep and, as a result, should allow him to make through the first unscathed as well.
