Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals MLB Picks
On paper, it doesn’t look like a pitching duel. But the Athletics and Royals are both sending out pitchers who have performed exceptionally well over the last month.
The Athletics will roll with Jeffrey Springs. He’s a left-handed pitcher who has struck out more than 24% of batters over the last 30 days. Springs has also limited his previous 116 batters to a .301 wOBA and has only walked 8.6% of batters.
Today, he’ll take on a projected Royals lineup that has hit a .099 ISO and wOBA of .277 with 21% of strikeouts against lefties. Only Maikel Garcia and Freddy Fermin have consistently hit lefties over the last 30 days for the Royals.
On the other hand, the Royals will roll with Noah Cameron. He’s another left-handed pitcher who has limited his last 119 batters to a .133 ISO and wOBA of .242. Cameron’s strikeout rate is a little low, but he’s kept batters to a 16.5% line drive rate over the last month. He’s also added 25.7% of whiffs and 12.1% of swinging strikes. Therefore, the strikeouts will come.
Cameron is in line to face an Athletics projected lineup that has hit a .073 ISO and wOBA of .304 with more than 27% of strikeouts. Cameron should perform very well today.
Grab the under in this sneaky pitching duel.
Pick: Under 9.o Runs (-122)
San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Picks
The San Diego Padres will send Nick Pivetta to the mound for today’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pivetta has struck out close to 26% of batters over the last month. However, he’s also allowed a .167 ISO to his previous 60 righties and a .341 wOBA to his earlier 57 lefties.
Pivetta has also given up 32.5% of fly balls and has only induced 35% of ground balls over the last month.
That said, Arizona’s projected lineup has added a .227 ISO and a wOBA of .374, with a strikeout rate below 20%. The Diamondbacks continue to get a lot of production out of the entire lineup. They’ll give Pivetta a run for his money.
Conversely, Merrill Kelly will get the call for the Diamondbacks. He’s struck out more than 32% of batters over the last month. The right-hander has also limited his previous 118 batters to a .092 ISO and wOBA of .222. He’s been as good as any pitcher in the MLB over the last month.
That said, he’ll battle a projected Padres lineup that has combined to hit a .102 ISO and wOBA of .259 with nearly 24% of strikeouts against righties. Only Luis Arraez, Manny Machado and Gavin Sheets have been above-average offensively against righties over the last month for the Padres.
Therefore, consider taking the Diamondbacks on the Moneyline.
Pick: Diamondbacks Moneyline (-134)
