Milwaukee Brewers vs. Oakland Athletics
Joey Estes will take the mound for the Oakland Athletics today. He’s a right-handed pitcher who has watched his last 105 batters hit a .190 ISO. He’s kept walks down, but he’s strictly struggled with right-handed hitters lately. Over the previous month, righties have hit a .222 ISO and wOBA of .332 against Estes. Estes has only struck out 17.9% of righties and has allowed 38.6% of fly balls to them over the last month, too.
Beyond that, he’s given up 53.2% of hard contact to righties and has only earned 7.8% of swinging strikes overall to his last 105 batters.
He’ll go up against a Milwaukee lineup that already has more righties than lefties in the lineup. The projected lineup has five righties, which have combined to hit a .251 ISO and wOBA of .364 against righties in the last 30 days.
On the other hand, it’ll be Frankie Montas for Milwaukee. Montas has improved over the last month. Against his previous 90 batters, Montas has held them to a .111 ISO and wOBA of .269. He’s also allowed fewer than 20% of fly balls and has struck out 23.3% of batters.
Montas will battle an Athletics lineup that has only hit a .130 ISO and wOBA of .295 against righties over the last month. That’s nothing to rave about. Milwaukee has the edge. Take the Brewers on the moneyline at -124.
Pick: Brewers (-124)
Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Houston Astros will start Yusei Kikuchi against the Orioles tonight. Kikuchi is a left-handed pitcher who has struck out 31% of batters over the last month.
He’ll battle an Orioles lineup that has struck out nearly 23% of the time against lefties. Ultimately, he’ll have five targets who have struck out at least 25% of the time against lefties over the last month. In addition, the Orioles have only walked 5.9% of the time against lefties.
While Baltimore has power, it won’t matter if the Orioles can’t connect with Kikuchi’s pitches.
Meanwhile, Dean Kremer will start for Baltimore. The veteran righty has struggled to get other righties out, allowing a .163 ISO and wOBA of .320 to his last 56 righties. He’s also walked 10.8% of batters over the previous month and has given up 28% of fly balls with more than 40% of hard contact.
Kremer will face red-hot righties like Alex Bregman and Yainer Diaz. Yordan Alvarez and Jon Singleton are also major threats against righties right now.
Therefore, let’s ride with the Astros at -112.
Pick: Astros (-112)
