David Fry 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (+155)
Cleveland’s David Fry heads into this game as a tremendous value against the Boston Red Sox. While he hasn’t faced lefty Ranger Suarez many times in his career, Fry is 4-for-5 (.800) with two doubles, two RBIs and a walk in their brief encounters. Fry has a gaudy 1.200 slugging rate and 2.033 OPS in those five at-bats.
It takes a leap of faith to play Fry, as he is hitting a paltry .192 with seven homers and 18 RBIs this season, while posting a dismal .661 OPS. Fry is also hitting just .178 against lefties this season, but the right fielder has three doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs, while drawing 23 walks. He’s worth a roll of the dice.
Jose Ramirez 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-120)
Sticking in the same game, Jose Ramirez might not offer plus-money odds, but at this price, he is still a very good play. Ramirez has also had a ton of success against Suarez, going 5-for-8 (.625) with a double, an RBI and a walk, while posting a .750 slugging rate and 1.417 OPS in his career against the former Phillies southpaw.
Ramirez enters this game on fire. While he was hitless in three at-bats with a walk in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss in Boston, he is 9-for-25 (.360) across the past six games, posting three doubles, a homer and three RBIs with two walks and two stolen bases. With the Guardians playing for the American League Central Division title, expect their best hitter to shine brightest.
Dominic Canzone 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (+124)
Dominic Canzone is trying to will his team to a playoff spot against all odds. He went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, giving him 75 on the season. Canzone has the longest current hitting streak in the Majors at 12 consecutive games, going 16-for-47 (.340) with three doubles, two triples, a home run and 10 RBIs in the impressive span.
Canzone will face Angels righty Grayson Rodriguez, who has been very giving this season. Rodriguez is 4-8 with a 5.96 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 19 starts through 93.2 innings this season. As such, Canzone is a good bet to stay hot.
Bryan Woo Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-156)
Bryan Woo and the Mariners are still mathematically alive for the American League West Division title, but time is not on their side. Still, with Woo on the hill and the strikeout-prone Angels coming to town to start a four-game set, it’s worth backing the Seattle pitcher.
Wood is 8-1 with a 2.36 ERA (76.1 innings, 20 earned runs) in 12 starts at T-Mobile, allowing just six home runs and 14 walks, while recording 83 strikeouts. Woo has held teams to a .160 opponents’ batting average. Through 158 games, the Angels are tied with the Cincinnati Reds with 1,507 strikeouts, the most in the Majors. Woo is a strong play at home, as he should record seven or more punchouts.
