This Season: 20-20
Bellinger has recorded a hit in seven of his last eight games. That stretch includes a three-game series against the Marlins, where he reached base safely in every game.
The Marlins' starter tonight is Edward Cabrera. The first time Bellinger ever faced Cabrera was in the Cubs' most recent series against the Marlins. Cabrera struck Bellinger out in both of his at-bats. However, in that same game, Bellinger hit a home run in his first at-bat after Cabrera was pulled.
All of that is to say, Bellinger has success against the Marlins' pitching staff, and that has shown this season. Even if he can't figure out Cabrera, he will get a hit tonight.
Javier has struck out 35 batters in six appearances this season. He has only topped 6.5 batters once all year, and that came on April 23rd when he struck out 10 Atlanta Braves. But there are a few reasons to like his over tonight.
First, the Seattle Mariners have the fourth-most strikeouts as a team this season. Second, Javier has struck out the current Mariners' lineup 17 times in 49 at-bats. These are really solid numbers for a pitcher who can compile strikeouts when facing a favorable matchup. Everyone is probably looking at this number and taking the under, which is why it feels like a trap from oddsmakers. Don't fall for it. Take the over.
Witt Jr. is coming off a solid series against the Baltimore Orioles. While he only went 5-19, he did hit one double, one triple, and one home run in the series, and he hit safely in all three games.
Tonight, he will face Oakland A's starter Kyle Muller. Witt Jr. and Muller have no history against each other, but Muller has been really bad to start the season. He has a 6.28 ERA, a 1.92 WHIP, and he has allowed 40 hits in 28.2 innings. Witt Jr. has been prone to multi-strikeout games, but Muller has only struck out 20 batters this season. Witt Jr. will make contact in each of his at-bats, and with how he has been hitting, the contact will result in at least one extra-base hit.
