Since his first start of the season, Cortes has struck out at least five batters in all five of his starts. That includes striking out seven in three of his last four starts. Cortes has been giving up a lot of runs so his starts have been short, but even when they are, he manages to strike out a lot of batters.
McClanahan has given some electric performances this season. He has three games with at least nine strikeouts, including his outing last Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. However, he has yet to strike out more than six batters in back-to-back games this season.
He has struck out the current Baltimore Orioles' lineup 32 times in 108 at-bats, so there is a chance that he could have a huge night. But the Orioles are one of the best teams at making contact this season. They have struck out only 285 times, which is among the top 10 in the league.
Diaz has reached safely in five consecutive games, but he has not gone over 1.5 total bases in his last two. Hitting safely in six straight games is no easy task, but Diaz has a solid matchup tonight with a pitcher against whom he has found success.
Diaz is 3-7 in his career against Orioles' starter Kyle Gibson. It's not a large sample size, but it is enough for us to feel confident in the hot hitter to clear this total.
