This Season: 92-95
Last night, we nailed the Justin Verlander over as the pitcher struck out five Orioles. Tonight, we like Hunter Brown to have similar success against the same lineup. Brown has struck out five or more in five consecutive games. In his career against this current Orioles' lineup, he has struck out eight batters in 31 at-bats.
The only real issue with Brown is how long he stays in games. He hasn't gone more than 5.0 innings in his last six starts. Yet, he doesn't need many innings to rack up a significant amount of strikeouts. Additionally, his last 6.0-inning start came against the Orioles, and he struck out seven.
Zac Gallen has faced the Giants twice this season, and he has struck out six batters in each start. In his career, he has struck out this lineup 51 times in 152 at-bats. Gallen has 199 strikeouts in 192.2 innings pitched this season, but he has struggled to ring up batters of late. He has struck out four or fewer in four of his last six starts.
Considering that, this is a good spot for Gallen to get right. This is a team he pitches well against, and the Giants are the sixth-most strikeout-prone team in baseball. Gallen generally goes 6.0 innings, and if he continues to strike out 33% of Giants' batters, then 6.0 innings is all he will need to hit this over.
J.P. Crawford has hit safely in eight consecutive games. Tonight, he faces Paul Blackburn, a pitcher that he has a lifetime batting average of .385 against. With that in mind, we can't determine why this line isn't set at 1.5.
While this could be a trap, we're taking the over. Crawford's only batting .265 on the year, so it could be that oddsmakers are expecting him to revert to his average. But Blackburn is such a great matchup for him that we would be very surprised if his hitting streak ends tonight.
