Wednesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
MLB PrizePicks Record This Season: 40-39-2
Chris Sale More Than 7.5 Strikeouts
Similar to last week’s article, I am going right back to Chris Sale’s strikeout player prediction. It is the gift that keeps on giving, and he has gone over this line in eight of his last 10 starts. Ranking in the top 97th percentile in K% and CSW%, it’s safe to say Sale is a bonafide strikeout king, as he has been for the vast majority of his career. San Francisco has been hitting lefties well as of late, but they haven’t been facing southpaw starters akin to Sale, so let’s ride the hot wave with him here.
Yusei Kikuchi Less Than 17.5 Outs
Yusei Kikuchi got off to a red-hot start to the 2024 season, but that form has dwindled as of late. He has failed to go six innings in six of his last seven starts, owning a 7.12 ERA over that span. The Blue Jays lefty hasn’t ever been one to be very efficient with his pitch counts either. This year he is tied for 36th in pitches per plate appearance (3.93) out of 118 qualified starters. He faces a Houston squad that has had his number in the past. Their roster has a combined .423 xwOBA across 101 plate appearances against him. The Astros have a 120 wRC+, 10th-best, over the past 30 days against lefties as well.
Joey Estes Less Than 5 Strikeouts
Joey Estes’ last start against the Angels went well, but this line is an overreaction to those results. He finished with eight punchouts in that outing, a career-high, and faces the Halos once again. Typically that bodes better off for the offense, considering his delivery and offerings are fresh in their minds. Oakland’s rookie right-hander doesn’t profile as one to strike many bats moving forward either. FanGraphs projections have him pegged for around a 7.0 K/9 for the rest of the season. He has failed to eclipse this mark in seven of his nine starts.
