Wednesday’s Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions
MLB PrizePicks Record This Season: 60-45-3
Aaron Nola More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Aaron Nola has gone through a tough stretch of opponents for strikeouts but draws the Braves tonight. Atlanta’s lineup took yet another hit, with Austin Riley out for the next six to eight weeks. They have been extremely strikeout-prone all season, ranking fifth in K% (24.5%) against righties, and their roster has had its fair share of trouble against Nola in the past. Their roster owns a paltry 29.2% K% and .290 xwOBA across 295 combined plate appearances against the Phillies ace. Nola struck out eight against them on July 5.
Andrew Heaney More Than 5.5 Strikeouts
Similar to Nola, Andrew Heaney has faced a gauntlet of tough strikeout matchups. He finally gets a solid one to exploit. He faces the Pirates who have the fourth-highest K% (25.5%) against southpaws this season. Martin Perez and Cody Bradford, two lefties not known for their strikeout prowess, recently struck out eight against them over the past week. Heaney might not have the best strikeout numbers, but he’s capable of going off in the right matchup.
Jack Flaherty More Than 7.5 Strikeouts
Jack Flaherty takes on the Seattle Mariners, who own the highest K% against righties on the season, so don’t overthink this. We just saw Flaherty’s teammate, Gavin Stone, post a career-high in strikeouts against the Mariners, finishing with 10 over seven scoreless innings. Flaherty ranks in the top 97th percentile in K% and CSW% among all starters this season. He has found seven punchouts in 14 of his 21 starts. Given the matchup on hand, he should be able to find that extra punchout to clear the line.
