MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (8/4)

We do have one early game scheduled for this Friday’s slate of baseball, and it might be one of the best matchups of the bunch. Arguably the best team in baseball (Atlanta) makes the trip to Wrigley to face the hottest team in the sport. While this game may not make it into our favorite SGP bets of the day, lets take a look at some others that did.

Friday’s Best MLB Same Game Parlay

Houston Astros at New York Yankees

Yankees ML (+115) and o4.5 Runs (+120)

Luis Severino has been downright dreadful since returning from his preseason injury and last week seemingly appeared to be rock bottom. He is walking too many guys and allowing way too many homers and it’s leading to blow-ups. However, despite all of these issues, I believe the talented arm that we have seen as recently as last season is still in there as the velo has held steady. This is not a great lineup to “get right” against, but I think Sevy will do enough to put the team in a position to win. The Yankees’ offensive struggles are well documented, and they did just lose Anthony Rizzo, but based on what he was dealing with, I believe this will be addition by subtraction. They are still lacking a few hitters, but the small issue for Hunter Brown this season has been homers, and if there’s one thing these Yankees’ hitters can do, it is hit the long ball.

Giancarlo Stanton 2+ TBs (+150)

Speaking of long balls, it is all Stanton does well. He has homered in back-to-back games, and in something that has started to appear to become a meme to Yankee fans when Stanton gets hot, he goes on these stretches that can carry offenses. One such stretch might be starting.

Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox

Blue Jays ML (+135) and o5.5 Runs (+135)

The theme of today’s piece seems to be betting on formerly elite arms who have struggled mightily in 2023. Alek Manoah replaces Severino in this bet. Manoah has been bad but maybe not as bad as Severino, with walks being the main culprit of his demise. Since coming back from his demotion, Manoah has had one good start, one decent, and another two poor. Boston has a bottom-half BB% so hopefully, Manoah can find himself around the zone enough to limit the free passes and help his team win. Offensively, the Jays did lose Bo Bichette, but they have enough talent elsewhere to put up big games. James Paxton has had a resurgent season, but his low runs totals are a bit propped up by a slightly low BABIP. Paxton also seemingly allows a lot of baserunners for someone with his overall numbers. He had one blow-up start a few back, and this seems like a spot where it could happen again.

George Springer 2+ TBs (+125)

Springer has struggled a ton but needs to be picked up for the loss of Bichette if this team is going anywhere. Throughout his career, Springer has always hit lefties well with a 140 wRC+, and among the elite Jays’ bats, he has the best odds for our purposes.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Minnesota Twins

Diamondbacks ML (+110) and o5.5 Runs (+220)

Right now, the Twins cannot seem to get out of their own way, and they have played 0.500 ball over the last month. The offense is striking out at a high clip, and their reliable pitchers have hit some rough patches at different points in the season. After a hot start, the DBacks have come back to Earth, but Merril Kelly has been excellent. The Ks are up, and BBs have gone with it, but he limits the long ball well enough for the entire profile to fit. He has done a fantastic job putting his team in a position to win this year. On the other side, Bailey Ober has allowed five homers in his last three starts and has seemed to also find his way back down to Earth. While the DBacks do not have the biggest collection of HR hitters, the top of their lineup is plenty dangerous and could take advantage of these newfound struggles.

Christian Walker 2+ TBs (+120)

Walker, the biggest power threat in this lineup, picked up right where he left off last season and is en route to another 30+ HR season. The power is legit, and while he may not get the recognition others around the game as his position gets, he is one of the best first basemen in baseball.
