Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees

The Yankees needed this time off to recharge the batteries after a huge slump heading into the All-Star break. They went 8-18 in their last 26 games and fell out of first place.

They got the second half started well as they took the first game of this series. Nestor Cortes hasn't been as great as his breakout 2022 season, but he hasn't been as bad as he was in the following 2023 season. It's been a mix of the Yankees not giving him run support, but he also had some bad starts, including his last one against Tampa Bay, where he allowed five earned in 4.1 innings.

The Rays have consistently been a playoff contender, but this is the first year there is a chance they will miss out. This week will likely determine whether they want to try to bolster the roster and make a run or get rid of pieces and rebuild for next year.

Taj Bradley has been one of the bright spots of this rotation, as he has a team-best 2.92 ERA and 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings.

This includes going six innings and allowing just one earned against the Yankees in May.

    Houston Astros at Seattle Mariners

    • Leg 1: Astros Moneyline (-102)
    • Leg 2: Under 7 Runs (-110)
    • Leg 3: Mariners Under 3.5 Team Total Runs (-130)

This is a massive series for the Astros, who are making their comeback into the American League playoffs. After a horrible start to the season, they got hot and are 17-6 in their last 23 games. Most importantly, they can grab sole possession of the American League West lead for the first time this season.

Framber Valdez has been unsuccessful against the Mariners. He's dropped both starts and has a 6.35 ERA.

This is an entirely different Seattle lineup than Valdez faced earlier in the year. This one is awful. Since May 28, they have been last in batting average (.213) and strikeout rate (28.6%). This was the same problem they had last year, specifically the strikeouts, which caused them to regress during the last couple of months and miss the playoffs.

George Kirby has been fantastic the last couple of months and has a 2.11 ERA and 1.88 FIP in his previous nine.

Seattle has lost Kirby's last three starts due to a lack of run support, and that will continue today, as they couldn't even score a run last night.
