Chicago White Sox vs. San Diego Padres
- Leg 1: Griffin Canning Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+109)
- Leg 2: Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 Total Bases (+117)
- Leg 3: Manny Machado Over 1.5 Total Bases (+118)
The Chicago White Sox are set to pitch Anthony Kay today. The left-hander has struggled badly against right-handed hitting, allowing a .250 ISO and a wOBA of .427 against his first 97 righties this season. Key has allowed 33.3% of line drives and has struck out just 7.2% of righties. He’s falling behind against righties and allowing a high barrel percentage when giving up balls in play.
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado are two righties who can take advantage. Tatis Jr. has hit a .286 ISO and a wOBA of .471 against his last 17 lefties. Manny Machado has hit a .167 ISO and a wOBA of .442 with just 6.2% of strikeouts against lefties over the last 30 days. Look for those two righties to have big days.
In addition, Griffin Canning will make his season debut tonight. The former Mets pitcher is now on the Padres and has recovered from an injury suffered last season. Last year, he allowed a .123 ISO and a wOBA of .306 with 21.3% of strikeouts. He was pitching very well until his injury.
That said, he’ll battle a White Sox lineup that should have at least four players with a 23.9% strikeout rate or worse against righties. Let’s back Canning to add at least five strikeouts in his season debut.

Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers
- Leg 1: Kevin McGonigle Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (-114)
- Leg 2: Riley Greene Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (-105)
- Leg 3: Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI (+125)
The Texas Rangers are set to pitch Jack Leiter tonight. The right-hander has allowed a .217 ISO and a wOBA of .396 to his last 78 lefties. Over the last 30 days, he’s given up nearly 30% of line drives to lefties and a barrel percentage of 18.2%.
We’ll want to take advantage of these numbers.
Kevin McGonigle, Riley Greene, and Kerry Carpenter are all left-handed sluggers who have had success against righties this season.
McGonigle has hit a .222 ISO and a wOBA of .434 against righties this season. He’s also struck out fewer times than he’s walked against righties. Riley Greene has hit a .184 ISO and a wOBA of .360. His strikeouts are high, but so is his power against right-handed pitching. Lastly, Kerry Carpenter has smashed a .312 ISO and a wOBA of .368 against lefties this season.
Let’s ride with the Detroit lefties tonight.
