MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 175-101 (63.4%)
Kyle Freeland is among the league’s worst starters in terms of finding strikeouts. He ranks in the bottom 12th percentile in K% and 23rd in CSW% this season. Colorado’s lefty has stayed under this mark in nine of his 14 starts as well. Tonight he takes on one of the hardest lineups to navigate in the New York Yankees. They hardly strike out and rank 21st in K% (21.3%) since the start of July.
Anytime Chris Sale is on the mound and we get the chance to take his strikeout prop we do it. He’s the current National League Cy Young frontrunner and is matchup-proof at this point. I don’t care that the Nationals hardly ever strike out against lefties, it is Chris freaking Sale. He struck out 10 across seven innings against them on June 7. Sale has gone over this line in 14 of his last 18 starts.
The Angels rookie right-hander is looking to pitch to contact. Jack Kochanowicz throws his sinker 66% of the time and ranks in the bottom third percentile in K% and CSW%, albeit with just four starts in the Majors. He has failed to accrue three strikeouts in three of those four outings. Taking on the Blue Jays, he will be hard-pressed to get over this line once again. Toronto is 19th in K% (21.2%) and seventh in wRC+ (117) facing righties over the past 30 days.
