Thursday’s mediocre slate of games brought a solid 2-1 result. That’s nice and all, but busting out the brooms as we head into the weekend would be better. Let’s find that sweep with these three player predictions via Sleeper for Friday, August 9.

MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 163-98 (62.3%)
Bryce Miller’s home and road splits are drastic, and guess where he pitches tonight? Pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park in Seattle. He has a 2.27 ERA (3.32 xFIP) and 10.09 K/9 at home, and 5.37 ERA (4.68 xFIP) and 5.38 K/9 on the road. Seattle’s young right-hander has exceeded this line in eight of his 12 home starts on the season. Miller will face the Mets who haven’t been at their absolute best recently. Over the past two weeks, they are 17th in wRC+ (106) and sixth in K% (25.8%) when facing righties.
The newly acquired Baltimore Oriole takes on his former team tonight. Zach Eflin hasn’t been nearly as dominant as he was last season, but he is a solid starter facing a fairly weak offense. Tampa Bay has the third highest K% (27.5%) and is 23rd in wRC+ (97) over the past two weeks against right-handed pitching. Eleven of the last 14 right-handed starters to face them found six strikeouts. Eflin should be able to join that company back at the Trop.
Any time we get a reasonable price for Zack Wheeler to go six innings, we have to take it. The Phillies ace has been a workhorse for years now, and this year is no different. He has surpassed this number in 16 of his 22 starts, ranking in the top 95th percentile in xERA, 87th in K% and 88th in average exit velocity. Wheeler takes on the Snakes, who he has tamed in the past. Arizona has a combined .268 wOBA and 27% K% across 178 plate appearances against Wheeler.
