Josh Naylor Over .5 Total Hits (1.33X)
The Oakland Athletics will send JP Sears to the mound for today’s matchup against the Guardians. As a left-handed pitcher, Sears allowed a .226 ISO and wOBA of .399 against 140 lefties last season.
There aren’t many lefties I’d consider against other lefties. However, Josh Naylor of the Guardians smacked a .175 ISO and wOBA of .355 against 146 lefties last season. He also struck out only 10.3% of the time and walked 4.8% of the time.
The low walks only help the probability of Naylor earning a hit. After all, Sears only struck out 17.1% of lefties last season. He’s worse against lefties than righties, and Naylor has good numbers as a lefty against other lefties.
We just need one hit from Naylor.
Spencer Steer Over 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (1.98X)
The Reds will face left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin today. Corbin really struggled against righties last season, allowing a .198 ISO and wOBA of .367 to 650 righties.
He only struck out 15.4% of righties and allowed more than 25% of line drives and fly balls from righties.
He’ll take on right-handed hitter Spencer Steer in the middle of the Reds order. Steer slugged a .238 ISO and wOBA of .400, striking out 18.3% of the time against lefties last year. He also smacked 31% of line drives and 51.2% of hard contact against lefties last year,
He might get three hits alone. But the Reds should ultimately have a big day offensively, and Steer will be right in the middle of it.
KeBryan Hayes Over .5 Hits (1.30X)
I guess we’re just out here fading the lefties tonight.
Ryan Weathers of the Marlins will take the hill today. He struggled last year after allowing a .238 ISO and wOBA of .398 to 257 total batters.
He was bad against both sides of the plate, but he only struck out 14.5% of the 193 righties he faced last season. Therefore, we’ll attack Weathers with Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pirates.
Hayes is a right-handed hitter who smashed a .238 ISO and wOBA of .360 last season against lefties. He also struck out only 17.4% of the time and didn’t walk very often. Therefore, he’s highly likely to put the ball in play each time he faces Weathers tonight.
He’ll bat third in the Pirates order and hit nearly 55% of hard contact last season. So, let’s take a chance on Hayes to add at least one hit tonight.
