Saturday's Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Will Benson Under 1.5 Strikeouts (1.57X)
Will Benson will likely bat in the two-spot today against the Nationals. Benson typically strikes out at a high rate against righties as a left-handed batter.
Last year, he struck out 30.5% of the time. That’s less than ideal.
However, the Reds will face Jake Irvin, who only struck out 16.8% of lefties last season. Instead, he allowed a .222 ISO and wOBA of .372 to 286 lefties.
While Benson has a high strikeout rate, he also smashed a .255 ISO and wOBA of .409 against 282 righties last season. Irvin doesn’t have put-away stuff, and Benson has sneaky power against righties. Let’s ride his Under 1.5 strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo Over .5 Hits (1.32X)
The Mets are desperate for a win today. After an 0-2 start, New York has a solid matchup against right-hander Colin Rea.
Rea allowed a .251 ISO and wOBA of .351 to 247 lefties last season.
Brandon Nimmo is one of the left-handed batters who destroyed righties last season. Nimmo hit a .235 ISO and wOBA of .380 against 448 righties the previous year. He also kept ground balls below 40% and smacked 58.1% of hard contact with more than 30% of line drive contact against righties.
Nimmo will likely get five plate appearances. He’ll need one hit in one of those five.
Yordan Alvarez Over 1.5 Total Bases (1.86X)
The Astros will face Clarke Schmidt of the Yankees today. Schmidt is a right-handed pitcher who allowed a .197 ISO and wOBA of .381 to 344 lefties last year.
The Astros have some powerful lefties in the lineup. No one is more powerful than Yordan Alvarez, who hit a .358 ISO and wOBA of .453 against 345 righties last season.
Alvarez also hit over 40% of line drives and fly balls against righties while hitting 63.8% of hard contact against righties.
On the other hand, Schmidt allowed 54.7% of hard contact to lefties and gave up 29% of line drives, which are both above-average numbers for a a starting pitcher.
Let’s take Alvarez to earn at least two total bases in the two-spot today.
Ryan Feltner Under 4.5 Ks (1.59X)
The Ryan Feltner experience is an interesting one.
Last year, Feltner struck out only 18.5% of batters and walked 14%. Meanwhile, he held teams to a .095 ISO but a wOBA of .335.
His stats were all over the place.
However, Arizona matches up nicely. The Diamondbacks struck out only 21.2% of the time last year using their projected lineup, and only Eugenio Suarez struck out more than 21.8% of the time against righties last year.
Feltner really doesn’t have that many targets to land five strikeouts. He probably won’t even get through five innings.
