Thursday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
PrizePicks this season: 85-67-9 | Sleeper Picks Playoffs: 13-11
Bryce Harper Over 0.5 Walks
It has worked like a charm, so let’s go back to the well for a third time in a row on Bryce Harper’s walks line. Arizona has pretty clearly pitched around him since Zac Gallen gave up that first-inning homer in Game 1 and will continue to do so, given the form he is in. Harper has now walked at least once in six of eight postseason contests and is running a 26% BB% across those 35 plate appearances.
Jose Abreu Over 1.5 Hits, Runs + RBIs
Jose Abreu has always mashed left-handed pitching throughout his career, and there’s a strong likelihood he draws plenty of Southpaws tonight. Texas will start with the lefty Andrew Heaney, whom Abreu is 5-19 with four homers against, before going to Dane Dunning. Once Dunning departs, the bullpen games will intensify for the Rangers.
Surrounded by the lefty-hitting Yordan Alvarez, Kyle Tucker and Michael Brantley in the lineup, Abreu will reap the benefits of Texas turning to their lefty relievers later in the game. With the new three-batter minimum rule, these lefties will be forced to take on Abreu, who has a career 144 wRC+ facing Southpaws.
He definitely wasn’t at his best this season, but he has heated up at the right time and posted a 123 wRC+ in the month of September and went off in the ALDS against the Twins. Abreu has gone over this mark in four of his seven games this postseason and 11 of his last 16 dating back to the end of the regular season.
Yordan Alvarez Over 0.5 Walks
It didn’t work out last night, but I just can’t fathom the Rangers actually pitching to Yordan Alverez again. If it weren’t for an incredible catch by Leody Tavares, Alvarez would’ve had his seventh home run this postseason. He is the hottest hitter on the planet, and Texas has no business throwing him anything in the zone at this point. Back him to find a free pass tonight.
