MLB Sleeper Picks Player Predictions
Sleeper Record: 114-62
Hitter props don’t typically find their way into this article unless there’s a serious edge. I’m pretty sure we found one, given how low this line is. Tyler Soderstrom has started each of the last 18 games for the Athletics and has played pretty well over this span, batting .278 with a .353 on-base percentage (OBP) and a .557 slugging percentage. He has found at least one hit, run or RBI in 14 of these 18 games. Oakland’s first baseman has yet to square off against Tyler Anderson, but it’s not like he is a Cy Young-caliber shutdown ace. Anderson is in the bottom 28th percentile in xERA, 19th in BB%, 22nd in barrel% and 12th in K%.
Sometimes these lines simply do not make any sense. Ranger Suarez, the current National League Cy Young favorite, takes on the Detroit Tigers, who have the seventh-highest K% (24.1%) against lefties since the start of June. While he doesn’t have the same strikeout upside as someone like Chris Sale, Suarez still gets his fair share of punchouts, ranking in the 86th percentile in K% and 81st in CSW% amongst starters. Why is this line at 4.5? I do not know, but I do know he has found five strikeouts in 11 of his 15 starts, so let’s take the clear misprice when we have them.
Reynaldo Lopez has been a revelation for the Braves this season. Seriously, who saw this sort of production coming from the former top pitching prospect? Ranking in the 81st percentile in xERA, with an actual 1.57 ERA through his first 13 starts, Lopez has stayed under this line in 12 of his 13 starts. The Cardinals have heated up at the dish more recently, but I’ll take my chances with Lopez given what he has shown us through 13 starts this season.
