There is not a hotter hitter in baseball than Vladimir Guerrero Jr. right now. He is riding a 17-game hit streak with everything looking like a beach ball coming his way. Over this span, he has a .500/.560./.1078 triple-slash line with 10 doubles and nine homers. Vladdy has exceeded this line in 14 of these 17 games. Tonight he squares off with Grayson Rodriguez, whom he is 5-for-14 against with a double and home run.
The Cubs rookie left-hander has been excellent in his debut season. Although he has exceeded this mark more frequently as of late, Shota Imanaga has been a stout run-preventer throughout the season, staying under this line in 13 of his 19 starts. He ranks in the 86th percentile in xERA, 96th in BB%, 77th in K% and 95th in SwStr% among starting pitchers. Tonight he faces a Twins team that has been struggling against lefties more recently. They are 28th in wRC+ (73) and 12th in K% (24.3%) against lefties over the past 30 days. Six of the past seven left-handed starters to face them have stayed under this.
Sonny Gray continues to rack up strikeouts this season and draws a phenomenal matchup to keep that trend up tonight. The Tampa Bay Rays are fourth in K% (26.2%) against righties over the past month. Eight out of the nine projected hitters in their lineup have a 25% K% against righties throughout the season too. As for Gray, he has recorded at least six strikeouts in 17 of his 20 starts, ranking in the 95th percentile in K% and 97th in CSW%.
