Saturday’s Best MLB Sleeper Player Picks
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks and predictions for Saturday’s slate of games.
Over the last 30 days, Jonathan India has added a .226 ISO and wOBA of .365 against his last 59 righties. He’s also struck out just 13.6% of the time while hitting 26.1% of fly balls and 45.7% of hard contact.
He’ll lead off for the Reds and face Zack Littell of the Rays. Littell is also a right-handed pitcher, but over the last month, he’s allowed a .304 ISO and wOBA of .418 to his previous 26 righties. Those 26 righties have also hit 33.3% of fly balls and just 27.8% of ground balls.
In addition, Littell has struck out only 19.2% of righties over the last 30 days.
Take India to add at least two total bases against Littell today. The matchup looks appealing.
Trea Turner is another right-handed bat that has destroyed right-handed pitching over the last 30 days. Turner has hit a .312 ISO and wOBA of .484 with only 20.6% of strikeouts against righties over the previous month. Turner isn’t up at the plate looking to walk. He’s hacking, especially since he’s walked under 2% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, Turner has also hit 32% of fly balls and 54% of hard contact against righties in that same time period.
He’ll take on Carlos Carrasco of the Guardians, a righty who has allowed his last 52 righties to hit a .340 ISO and wOBA of .445. He’s also given up nearly 36% of line drives to righties and has induced just 25.6% of ground balls. On top of that, Carrasco has earned just 21.2% of his strikeouts against righties.
Turner is red-hot at the plate, and Carrasco has been awful against righties over the last 30 days. It’s the perfect matchup. Add Turner to record at least two total bases.
Joe Ryan has already struck out nearly 30% of batters over the last month. In addition, he’s held batters to just 4% of walks in the previous 30 days.
He might give up some power to righties, but we’re not worried about that. Instead, we want the Tigers to put the ball in play against Ryan.
The Tigers’ projected lineup has hit a .196 ISO and wOBA of .317 which is nothing special at all. Most of all, the Tigers’ projected lineup has walked only 6% of the time against righties over the last 30 days. Only Justyn-Henry Malloy and Colt Keith have added strikeout rates above 7% against righties in the previous 30 days.
Therefore, we’ll rock the Under for Ryan’s walks tonight.
Yordan Alvarez has smashed a .435 ISO and wOBA of .575 against his last 27 lefties. These reverse splits are uncommon for most lefties in the league, but not Alvarez. He’s above-average in almost every category as a lefty against lefties in the last month. He’s even got a .600 BABIP in his last 27 plate appearances against lefties while hitting 93.8% of hard contact.
With that said, we’ve got to take him to add at least two total bases against Justin Wrobleski of the Dodgers. Wrobleski is a lefty who has watched his first 17 lefties hit a combined .333 ISO and wOBA of .511. He’s also allowed 42.9% of line drives with only 21.4% of ground balls induced.
Alvarez should sock one or two balls in tonight’s game against the Dodgers.
