Saturday’s Best MLB Sleeper Picks & Predictions
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player predictions on Saturday’s slate of games.
David Peterson Under 5.5 Hits Allowed (1.80x)
After the Pirates added seven home runs and 14 runs last night, they’ll likely be a little more silent today.
David Peterson will take the hill for the Mets. He’s a lefty who has held his last 96 batters to a .120 ISO. He’s also induced 54.5% of ground balls and has issued more than 11% of walks over the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Pirates haven’t hit for power against lefties lately. After all, Pittsburgh’s projected lineup has hit a .104 ISO against lefties over the last month. The projected lineup also has six batters with a wOBA of no higher than .304 in the previous 30 days against lefties.
Therefore, Peterson should be able to limit the hits against Pittsburgh. The Pirates ultimately used up all of their power last night.
MacKenzie Gore Under 2.5 Earned Runs (1.70x)
MacKenzie Gore has been a little under the radar recently. Against his last 30 batters, Gore has earned 26.2% of strikeouts and has limited opponents to 6.6% of walks.
In addition, the Washington left-hander has held teams to a .091 ISO and has limited righties to a wOBA of .295 over the last month.
The Cardinals will likely have at least seven righties in today’s lineup. Those seven righties have combined to hit a .103 ISO with a wOBA of .296 over the last 30 days against lefties. Only Willson Contreras and Nolan Arenado have hit consistently against lefties. However, Contreras just returned from injury and doesn’t have a full 30-day sample size against lefties right now.
Look for Gore to dominate a Cardinals lineup that has collectively hit a .087 ISO and wOBA of .255 over the last month against lefties.
Jordan Westberg Over 1.5 Total Bases (2.08x)
The Baltimore Orioles will face Luis Medina of the Athletics tonight. He’s a righty who has allowed his first 70 righties to hit a .164 ISO and wOBA of .353.
Medina has also induced just 34% of ground balls against righties and has allowed 32% of fly balls with 26% of line drives this season.
The Orioles mostly have lefties in the lineup. However, Jordan Westburg should be one of the few righties. Westburg has slugged a .310 ISO and wOBA of .417 against his last 76 righties as a right-handed batter. He’s also hit more than 31% of line drives against righties during this time and has added 52.9% of hard contact with a 17.6% barrel percentage.
Westburg matches up well against Medina today.
Seth Lugo Over 6.5 Strikeouts (1.89x)
Seth Lugo has struck out 24.5% of lefties this season. However, over the last 30 days, he’s added 32.9% of strikeouts against lefties.
That’s significant, especially since he’s facing a Rockies lineup that will have five lefties in it. Those five lefties on the Rockies have struck out more than 26% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.
Ultimately, Colorado has seven batters who have struck out more than 22% of the time against righties over the last 30 days. With most hitters lefty, let’s trust Lugo to add at least seven strikeouts tonight.
