Saturday’s Best MLB Sleeper Player Picks
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks and predictions for Saturday’s slate of games.
Kyle Manzardo Over 1.5 Total Bases (2.20x)
Kyle Manzardo has smashed a .321 ISO and wOBA of .427 against his last 60 righties. The rookie left-hander has also struck out 21.7% of the time and has launched 45% of fly balls while holding ground balls to only 22.5% over the last month.
He’ll be in line to face veteran righty Justin Verlander. However, Verlander hasn’t been the Verlander of old. Instead, he’s allowed his last 43 lefties to a .243 ISO and wOBA of .391. In addition, he’s given up 40.6% of fly ball contact and has struck out only 14% of lefties.
Verlander has added just 8% of swinging strikes and has induced only 25% of ground balls. The numbers look great for Manzardo. Take his Over 1.5 total bases.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto Over 5.5 Strikeouts (1.64x)
The Dodgers will give Yoshinobu Yamamoto one last start before the postseason. The rookie right-hander has struck out 30.6% of batters over the previous month. While he might only go 75 or so pitches, he’s facing a Rockies lineup that has struck out 28.3% of the time against righties over the last month.
The Rockies legitimately have seven players with a strikeout rate of at least 24.6% and have eight players who have struck out at least 21.6% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, Yamamoto has added 31.2% of whiffs and 14.3% of swinging strikes during that same time. Yamamoto could add six strikeouts very early in this game. I’m on his Over.
Andrew Heaney Under 2.5 Earned Runs (1.52x)
The Los Angeles Angels will face lefty Andrew Heaney of the Rangers tonight. Neither team is making the playoffs. But one thing’s for sure.
The Rangers can’t hit lefties.
The projected lineup has hit a .024 ISO and wOBA of .182 over the last 30 days. This lineup has also struck out more than 24% of the time and has earned walks below 8% of the time.
Heaney has struck out nearly 26% of righties over the last 30 days and has limited walks to 5.1%. Heaney should cruise past this Angels lineup that has been atrocious against lefties throughout the previous 30 days.
Julio Rodriguez Over 1.5 Total Bases (1.69x)
Seattle’s season will be over in two days. But at least Julio Rodriguez will end the year on a high note. The right-hander has slugged a .317 ISO and wOBA of .480 against his last 92 righties faced. He’s also hit 55.2% of hard contact, a 14.9% barrel percentage, and a BABIP of .417 in the previous 30 days against righties.
He’ll be in line to duel Joey Estes of the Athletics, who has allowed a .269 ISO and wOBA of .447 to righties over the last 30 days. Estes has given up 36% of fly balls and has struck out just 5.6% of righties over the previous month. He’s also added below 7% of swinging strikes and has allowed 24% of line drives.
Rodriguez should finish out the season strong. Back him to add at least two total bases in tonight’s ball game.
