Saturday’s Best MLB Sleeper Player Picks
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks and predictions for Saturday’s slate of games.
Zach Eflin Over 5.5 Strikeouts (1.78x)
In the last 30 days, Zach Eflin has struck out 32.4% of batters with a .056 ISO and wOBA of .196 allowed. He’s also walked just 2.7% of batters and has earned nearly 15% of swinging strikes.
Today, he’ll face his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Using the projected lineup, the Rays have struck out 25.5% of the time against righties in the last month. Six batters in that Rays lineup have strikeout rates of at least 23.4%.
Meanwhile, Eflin only needs six strikeouts. He’s been dealing, and the Rays have been whiffing. Take his Over to start your Sleeper entry.
Brant Hurter Under 4.5 Hits Allowed (1.82x)
The Tigers will throw out Brant Hurter for today’s game against the Athletics. He’s a lefty who has held his last 99 batters to a .273 wOBA. You can thank his ground ball rate of 52.1% and his line drive rate of just 16.4% over the previous month for these numbers.
That said, he’ll battle an Athletics lineup that has been miserable against lefties. The projected lineup has hit just a .089 ISO and wOBA of .246 with more than 20% of strikeouts and below 9% of walks. Hurter should have a big day. Even better, he’s averaging just 75 pitches a start.
Jackson Chourio Over 1.5 Total Bases (1.76x)
Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio has been on a rampage recently. The Brewers right-hander outfielder has smacked a .280 ISO and wOBA of .432 against his last 25 lefties. He’s also hit 56.5% of hard contact using a 17.4% barrel percentage over the previous month against lefties.
He’ll take on Ty Blach of the Rockies, who is a lefty struggling against righties. Blach’s last 13 righties have hit a .300 ISO and wOBA of .460 with 40% of fly balls and 50% of hard contact.
Throughout the season, Blach has also allowed a .244 ISO and wOBA of .446 to 229 righties. He’s been consistently bad against righties. Look for Chourio to do some damage tonight.
Matt Wallner Over 1.5 Total Bases (1.95x)
The Twins will take on Alec Marsh of the Kansas City Royals. While Marsh has been good against righties as a right-handed batter, he’s struggled against lefties over the last month.
Marsh has allowed a .524 ISO and wOBA of .538 against his last 25 lefties. He’s also allowed 45% of hard contact and has induced just 30% of ground balls. Additionally, he’s earned only 2.8% of swinging strikes against lefties in the last month and has allowed a 10% barrel percentage to lefties.
That’s where Matt Wallner comes in. The Twins left-handed power slugger has slapped a .246 ISO and wOBA of .366 against his last 79 righties. He’s also hit 66.7% of hard contact and a team-best 13.3% barrel percentage with more fly balls than ground balls hit.
