Sunday’s Best MLB Sleeper Player Picks
Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks and predictions for Sunday’s slate of games.
J.P. Sears Over 18.5 Fantasy Points (1.96x)
Over the last month. J.P. Sears has held his previous 102 batters to a .146 ISO and wOBA of .294. He’s even limited opponents to 2% of walks and has earned a higher strikeout rate over the last month.
He’ll take on a Blue Jays lineup with just three batters hitting lefties at an above-average rate. The other six batters have added an ISO of no higher than .100. In addition, the Blue Jays lineup has walked just 7.2% of the time against lefties, and there are also a majority of players who have hit a wOBA of no better than .260.
Sears would be in line for a quality start. If he can do that, he’ll get over his fantasy points projection.
Dylan Cease Over 7.5 Ks (1.77x)
There’s a promotion for Dylan Cease on the app. It’s for Cease to add one strikeout. Make sure to use that pick in one of your entries. But even after using that promotional pick, you can still consider Cease for more than 7.5 Ks.
Cease has struck out 38.8% of batters over the last month. He’s also held his last 98 batters to a .045 ISO and wOBA of .140 with 54% of ground balls induced. Ultimately, he’s been electric and one of the best pitchers in baseball recently.
Meanwhile, he’ll take on a Marlins lineup that has struck out 26.2% of the time against righties over the last month. The lineup has also been bad, hitting just a .121 ISO and wOBA of .295 against righties in the same period.
Cease has the potential to get deep in this game. But he’s also got six batters who have struck out about 22% of the time or more against righties over the last month. That’s plenty of targets for Cease. Take his Over.
Tyler Fitzgerald Over .5 Hits (1.47x)
The Tigers will send out Keider Montero against the Giants today. Montero is a right-handed pitcher who has allowed a .268 ISO and wOBA of .390 to his last 120 batters. He’s been terrible on both sides of the plate and has only struck out 17.1% of righties in the previous 30 days.
He’s in line to face Tyler Fitzgerald, who has become one of the season’s biggest surprises. The right-handed hitter is currently batting second in San Francisco while hitting a .408 ISO and wOBA of .444 against righties over the last month.
Fitzgerald has added more than 28% of line drives and fly balls against righties while hitting a 15.6% barrel percentage. Let’s add him to earn at least one hit. He might even have five opportunities today.
Cristopher Sanchez Under 2.5 Earned Runs (1.51x)
Cristopher Sanchez will take the hill for the Phillies later this afternoon. He’s a left-handed thrower who doesn’t always earn a high rate of strikeouts. But he has added tons of ground balls and rarely walks batters.
That’s really good since the Diamondbacks’ projected lineup has hit a .141 ISO and wOBA of .293 with more than 50% of ground balls against lefties in the same time frame.
Arizona only has three batters that have succeeded against lefties from an ISO and wOBA perspective over the last month. Sanchez should be able to pitch around those guys and attack the struggling ones. Take him to give up fewer than 2.5 earned runs.
