Let’s dive into our top MLB Sleeper player picks and predictions for Sunday’s slate of games.
Mitchell Parker Under 1.5 Walks (1.84x)
Washington will pitch left-hander Mitchell Parker against the Chicago Cubs tonight. Parker has allowed a .178 ISO and wOBA of .350 and has struggled more against righties over the last month.
However, he’s still been able to limit walks to under 7% over the last 30 days and has contributed just 6.4% of walks throughout the season.
While the Cubs have a lot of power potential against Parker, it’s unlikely they will earn a bunch of walks. The Cubs are aggressive at the plate against lefties. UChicago’s lineup has hit a .237 ISO and wOBA of .376 with 21.8% of strikeouts and just 4.2% of walks over the last 30 days against lefties.
Ultimately, Chicago has just three batters who have averaged more than 5.6% of walks against lefties. The lineup also has five batters who haven’t worked a walk against a lefty in the last 30 days. Parker might get rocked by some of the righties in the Chicago lineup. But the walks won’t be there.
Josh Naylor Over 1.5 Total Bases (2.10x)
In the last 30 days. Josh Naylor has destroyed right-handed pitching. He’s hit a .237 ISO and wOBA of .371 against his last 86 righties. In addition, he’s only struck out 15.1% of the time and has hit 50.8% of hard contact with a 9.5% barrel percentage.
Today, he’ll battle Mitch Keller of the Pirates. While Keller is a notable name and a solid starter, he’s struggled against lefties over the last month.
Keller has allowed a .333 ISO and wOBA of .430 to his last 61 lefties. He’s also earned just 16.4% of strikeouts against lefties in that time and has allowed 36.2% of fly balls with 55.3% of hard contact to those 61 lefties.
Beyond that, Keller has earned below 7% of swinging strikes and has given up a barrel percentage of 10.6% against lefties.
Take Naylor to earn at least two total bases.
Kerry Carpenter Over 1.5 Total Bases (2.15x)
Kerry Carpenter has smashed a .333 ISO and wOBA of .438 against his last 54 righties. The left-handed has a high strikeout rate against righties, but when he connects, he’s earning hard contact and putting the ball in the air.
Carpenter even has a 22.6% barrel percentage and a .385 BABIP against righties over the last 30 days.
He’ll be in line to hit against Boston righty Cooper Criswell. Criswell has allowed a .222 ISO and wOBA of .442 to his last 34 lefties. He’s also struck out no lefty in the previous 30 days and has earned just 4.5% of swinging strikes.
If Carpenter doesn’t strike out, he tattoos the ball. That looks very likely to happen against Criswell.
Dylan Cease Over 7.5 Ks (1.83x)
Dylan Cease has struggled to add a super high rate of strikeouts, as he has for most of the season. Over the last 30 days, he’s added just 22.1% of strikeouts and has walked 11.5%.
He’s been worse over the last 30 days. However, Cease still has 30.6% of strikeouts against 644 batters this season. Plus, he’s facing a Rays projected lineup that has struck out nearly 33% of the time against righties.
Tampa Bay’s lineup has also hit just a .142 ISO and wOBA of .248 against righties over the last month. There’s an excellent chance Cease delivers high strikeouts again tonight. This game will help him get back on track for September. Let’s take Cease to earn at least eight strikeouts today.
