Wednesday’s Best NBA Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets
The Philadelphia 76ers have lost four of their last five games. They’re currently 20-33 and on pace to miss the playoffs. However, the 76ers are still within distance. While they’re 23 games back from first place, the 76ers are just 1.5 games back from 10th place in the Eastern Conference. Most teams below the top-ten marker typically tank.
However, the 76ers are a bit different. With a healthy Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey, they know they can always make a run in the playoffs.
It’s unlikely Embiid will ever be 100% healthy this season. It’s also uncertain if he’ll even play in this game. However, the 76ers have already knocked off the Nets by double-digits in two separate meetings.
In an earlier home game, the 76ers dominated the Nets, 113-98, without Embiid or George. In the second win over the Nets, the 76ers added a 123-94 win with George and Embiid.
We’ve seen this team dominate the Nets with multiple lineups and different combinations. No matter who plays, the 76ers seem to have the Nets’ number. In both games, the Nets were held to below 100 points. That makes sense, considering the Nets rank 27th in points per 100 possessions and have turned the ball over 16.1% of the time. Ultimately, the 76ers have added 17.2% of turnovers on defense and specialize in takeaways.
Even though the 76ers are on the road, Philadelphia -2.5 has some real value.
Pick: 76ers -2.5 (-115)
Phoenix Suns at Houston Rockets
The Phoenix Suns lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 119-112 last night. This is Phoenix’s fifth loss in February, and it’s only February 12. The Suns are now 26-27 and below .500. In addition, Bradley Beal has a toe injury and has already been ruled out for tonight’s game against the Rockets.
Not having Beal will hurt offensively. After all, the Rockets rank fourth in the NBA in defensive points per 100 possessions. The Rockets have also allowed just a 52.8% effective field goal percentage this season.
Although the Suns tried to improve their offensive rebounding with the addition of Nick Richards, they still rank 27th in the league. That won’t help against a Rockets team that has allowed just 28% of offensive rebounds per game this season.
On the other hand, the Suns rank 27th in defensive points per 100 possessions. Phoenix should be able to limit damage from the field since Houston ranks 27th in effective field goal percentage. However, the Suns won’t have many answers on the glass. The Rockets rank No. 1 in the NBA in offensive rebounds and have turned the ball over just 13.7% of the time.
Meanwhile, the Suns rank 27th in defensive turnovers and 20th in defensive rebounding. The Rockets should be able to exploit these two areas. Let’s back the Rockets at -6.5.
Pick: Rockets -6.5 (-110)
