Thursday’s Best NBA PrizePicks Player Predictions
Rudy Gobert feasts when he goes up against Nikola Vucevic. Throw out the first matchup against him where he played just 14 minutes. In his 14 other meetings against Vucevic, Gobert has averaged 14.6 points and 16.1 rebounds per game, exceeding this line in 13 contests. Let’s zero in on their more recent matchups since Gobert joined Minnesota. He has accrued 40, 29 and 28 combined points and rebounds in those meetings. Big men have faired well against Chicago this season, too. We have seen the likes of Daniel Gafford (24 points and rebounds), Walker Kessler (28), Nic Claxton (21) and Jaren Jackson Jr. (25) not have much trouble producing against the Bulls. Neither should Gobert.
Sticking in the same game, let’s look to one of the newer faces on the Bulls, Josh Giddey, who is dishing and diming off the wide without Lonzo Ball. Watching his game yesterday, he’s looking to pass the ball first, which is highlighted by the assist production he has put up. In five games without Ball, Giddey has put up nine (11 potential assists), five (13), eight (14), seven (10) and six (data not available overnight) assists. Other facilitators against the Timberwolves include LaMelo Ball (two assists), Tre Mann (six) Chris Paul (13), Nikola Jokic (13), Russell Westbrook (five), Luka Doncic (nine), Davion Mitchell (eight) and De’Aaron Fox (11). Do you get the picture? Back Giddey to dish it out some more in this one.
San Antonio is coming off a 27-point blowout loss to a solid Rockets team last night. They welcome a significantly weaker foe into town, squaring off with the Portland Trail Blazers tonight. It’s still very early in the season, but Portland is 28th in adjusted net rating and 21st in adjusted defensive net rating. In non-blowout games, Chris Paul has dished out at least eight assists in six out of seven contests, averaging 8.3 per game. He has found at least nine assists in five of those games. Before yesterday, his 17 potential assists per game was the fourth-highest in the NBA. Look for the future Hall of Famer to do what he does best as the Spurs look to get back on track.
