New England Patriots vs. New York Jets NFL Sports Betting Guide

The New York Jets turned a lot of heads with a 24-22 win over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. Now, they will try to build on their first win of the season against another opponent that almost nobody thinks they can beat when they host the New England Patriots in an AFC East showdown on Monday Night Football.

New England has won each of the last seven meetings between the teams but they struggled a little bit with the New York Giants last week. Can the Jets offer some resistance, or will the Patriots stay undefeated?

Overview

New England is a 9.5-point favorite for this week’s contest despite some significant injuries on the offensive side of the football. The offensive line has lost a ton of assets while wide receivers Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, and Phillip Dorsett are all dealing with various ailments to different degrees. It seems like everyone is likely to play, though.

Still, Brady and the weapons that dressed for New England last week managed to put up 35 points in a win over the New York Giants. While the offense is struggling with injuries, the Patriots’ defense has been historically good. New England has allowed just 8.0 points per game this season. As long as the Patriots continue to shut down their opponents, Brady and company will only need to score 14 to 20 points to stay perfect.

Meanwhile, the Jets are just happy to have their franchise quarterback in the lineup again. After missing a few weeks due to mono, Sam Darnold completed 23-of-32 pass attempts for 338 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Dallas. After struggling with third-string quarterback Luke Falk for a couple of weeks, the Jets’ offense looked much more efficient with Darnold in the lineup. And to no one’s surprise, with the offense doing its part, the defense was effective after getting hung out to dry under Falk.

New York will hope to carry over some of that momentum into this week’s matchup. In order to have a shot, the Jets will still need more out of their defense. They held the Cowboys to 22 points last week but mostly hung on in the end.

Trends

  • Patriots have won 7 straight vs. Jets
  • New England is 4-1 ATS in last 5 road games
  • New York is 1-5-1 ATS in last 7 games following a SU win
  • Jets are 1-6-1 ATS in last 8 home games overall

Bottom Line

New England has won seven straight games against the Jets dating back the last four seasons. The Patriots have also won six straight to open this season. New England should be able to extend both of those streaks when they visit New York on Monday Night Football, but don’t be surprised if this is a bit of a dog fight.

With injuries adding up on the offensive side of the football, Brady being a bit turnover prone over the last few weeks, and Darnold back in the lineup for the Jets, the final score might not be as lopsided as some expect.

Prediction: Jets +9.5
