Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions (Game Pick)
The Los Angeles Rams will seek revenge against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 of the NFL season. On January 14, the Rams and Lions played in the NFC Wild Card playoffs in Detroit. There was plenty of offense in the first half, but the points slowed down in the second.
In that game, the Lions were up 21-17 heading into halftime. However, neither team scored a touchdown in the second half, and the total finished at 47 after the Lions defeated the Rams, 24-23. Stafford and Goff didn’t make many plays in the second half. However, Stafford still threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns. Goff added 277 yards passing and one touchdown.
We didn’t see much success in the run game. However, Puka Nacua recorded nine catches for 181 yards and a touchdown. On the other side, Amon-Ra St. Brown added seven receptions for 110 yards. The offenses were elite to start the game. However, this time, in Week 1 of the season, it’s unlikely these two offenses come to an abrupt stop with scoring points in the second half.
Both defenses were absolutely terrible in coverage last season, and the missed tackles were awful for both squads. Therefore, I’ll grab the Over 52.5 (-108) as the top pick for tonight’s SNF game.
Pick: Over 52.5 (-108)
Los Angeles Rams vs. Detroit Lions (Player Prop)
Matthew Stafford added at least 317 yards in three consecutive games to close out last season. He also threw for at least 279 yards in four of his previous five games, including the playoffs matchup.
In addition, I just mentioned Detroit’s coverage being very weak, and I believe Stafford will have a field day throwing the ball against the Lions. Sure, Detroit added Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw in the draft. But I’m not sitting here and relying on rookie players in the secondary in a Sunday Night Football game against a Super Bowl winner like Stafford.
Stafford could make a mistake or two. But how often has he had Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp healthy simultaneously? Not many. But when those two are on the field together, there will be a lot of yards gained after the catch, and many throws that go beyond 10 yards.
Let’s take Stafford to earn at least 274 passing yards against his former team on the road.
Pick: Matthew Stafford Over 273.5 Passing Yards (-113)
