Week 7 NFL Sunday Night Football Touchdown Scorers Picks
Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook
Atlanta Falcons First TD Scorer: Tyler Allgeier (+500)
The Falcons have arguably the best two-headed backfield in the NFL. Bijan Robinson is a superstar and a top-three running back. However, Allgeier is one of the top backup running backs in the league and would start for several teams. Despite Robinson being the focal point of Atlanta's offense, Allgeier has done well finding the end zone. He leads the team with three rushing touchdowns and three offensive scores, finding the end zone in back-to-back games.
Furthermore, the former BYU star has been the Falcons' go-to guy early and late in contests. Allgeier has the first team touchdown in half the games where Atlanta found the end zone this season, including last week. Meanwhile, the 49ers have struggled to keep running backs from scoring, giving up six touchdowns to the position this year. More importantly, the first touchdown scored against San Francisco has been by a running back in three consecutive matchups.
San Francisco 49ers First TD Scorer: George Kittle (+550)
Welcome back to the field, superstar. Kittle will play on Sunday night for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1. Despite playing only 28% of the snaps in Week 1, he found the end zone, scoring the 49ers' first touchdown of the game. More importantly, the first San Francisco touchdown has been by a tight end in half the games this year, including Kittle's replacement, Jake Tonges, two weeks ago.
Last season, the superstar tight end led the 49ers in offensive scores with eight, ranking 13th in the NFL in receiving touchdowns. Half of his receiving touchdowns were the first San Francisco offensive score of the game last year. Meanwhile, the Falcons have quietly had one of the top pass defenses in the league. Yet, the first touchdown they surrendered last week went to Dawson Knox. Expect the 49ers to feature Kittle early in his first game back from injury.
Anytime TD Scorer: Christian McCaffrey (-175)
While I didn't go with chalk picks to score the first team touchdowns, the anytime picks will be chalk. McCaffrey is the betting favorite to have an anytime touchdown on Sunday night. The superstar running back leads the 49ers with four offensive scores, accounting for 36.4% of the team's total this season despite having only one rushing touchdown. He has found the end zone in four of the past five games, including three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, the Falcons have had an excellent run defense, surrendering the sixth-fewest rushing yards per attempt. More importantly, they have given up only one rushing touchdown to running backs. Yet, McCaffrey isn't like most running backs, as the superstar is the best weapon in the passing game coming out of the backfield. He has three receiving touchdowns this year, the most among running backs. Atlanta has surrendered two receiving touchdowns to running backs this season.
Anytime TD Scorer: Bijan Robinson (-160)
Jonathan Taylor leads the NFL in rushing yards per game (100.5). However, Robinson is right behind him in second place, averaging 96.8 rushing yards per game, a career-high. The former Texas star has been the focal point of the Falcons' offense despite having only 30 more rushing attempts than Tyler Allgeier this year (83 vs. 53). Robinson has a team-high three offensive touchdowns and 107 touches. More importantly, he has found the end zone in back-to-back outings.
San Francisco's defense has been destroyed by injuries. Unfortunately, they lost Fred Warner to a season-ending injury last week. Therefore, expect the 49ers to struggle to stop the run, especially after last week's performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite Bucky Irving missing the game with multiple injuries. San Francisco has surrendered six touchdowns to running backs, including one each to Rachaad White and Sean Tucker last week. More aggressive bettors should back Robinson to score twice at +360.
