NFL Week 12 Game Preview: Odds, Picks & Predictions (Bills vs. Eagles)

Stefon Diggs

The team with the best record in football is hosting the team with the wildest fans. The Eagles' fans are close, but the Bills’ diehards take the cake. It should be an entertaining game with two rabid fanbases. The weather should not be a problem at Lincoln Financial Field, and the game should be just as good.

The Bills beat the Jets last week, 32-6. They wanted revenge for the loss in the season opener and got it. They are dealing with some injuries in their secondary. Safeties Micah Hyde and Taylor Rapp are dealing with neck issues that have them limited at practice this week. Cornerback Taron Johnson suffered a concussion and must clear concussion protocol. He logged a limited practice on Thursday, a step in the right direction.

The Eagles traveled to Arrowhead Stadium last week and left with a win in a Super Bowl rematch from last season. They do have some injury concerns following that game. A.J. Brown is dealing with a thigh injury, and D'Andre Swift has an ankle injury that has kept them both limited in practice. Dallas Goedert is still not at practice due to an arm injury.

Will the Eagles' defense contain Stefon Diggs?

The Eagles are great at defending the run but have struggled against the pass all season. They are ranked first with 76.5 rushing yards allowed per game but rank twenty-eighth in passing yards (248.1) per game. Kevin Byard has made a big difference since coming over via trade with the Titans, but they are still beatable in the secondary. The Chiefs were held to 168 passing yards, but they had multiple drops where the receiver was wide-open. The Bills' receivers are much more talented and will not drop easy passes.

The biggest matchup for the Bills' passing attack is on the offensive line. The Eagles have 31 sacks this season, and Josh Allen has gotten sacked 14 times. The Eagles' front seven should have their moments in this game, but they will be few and far between. Allen's mobility makes it hard to rush upfield, as he can tuck it and beat the defense with his legs. If Allen takes care of the football, the Bills should succeed against this defense.

Which quarterback will play better?

Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen have been struggling with turnovers this season. The Bills have a turnover differential of zero, and the Eagles are -1. Allen has thrown 12 interceptions this season, and Hurts has thrown nine. Allen also has three fumbles lost, and Hurts has lost two. The Eagles have overcome the turnovers, and the Bills have lost a few games because of Allen's. The Bills have forced 19 turnovers this season, and the Eagles have 13. The Bills could have some trouble with a few injuries in their secondary, but they will likely have to score many points to compete in this game anyway.

The Eagles should succeed against this defense regardless of the game plan. The Bills are more susceptible to the run, but if their secondary is limited due to injury, it could open passing lanes. The Eagles have averaged 29.5 points per game in their last four, and the Bills have averaged 24 points per game in their previous four. It should be an entertaining, back-and-forth game.

The pick: Over 48.5
