Today’s 2024 NBA Summer League Best Bets
Here are our top picks for today’s 2024 NBA Summer League action.
Suns vs. Kings
The Phoenix Suns are on a two-game winning streak in the Summer League. The Suns have scored 100+ points in back-to-back games with wins over the Thunder and Bucks. Today, they'll face the Sacramento Kings, who are 1-3 in the Summer League. Sacramento has primarily played in tight games but hasn't been able to escape with wins recently. Against the Wizards last time out, the Kings added just 69 points. Boogie Ellis led the team in scoring despite playing fewer minutes than all starters. Ultimately, the Suns are playing more together. They're deeper with Oso Ighodaro, Boo Buie, David Roddy, Jalen Bridges, and Isaiah Wong. Phoenix just has way more offensive options. Let's take the Suns at -115.
Pick: Suns ML (-115)
- Jason Radowitz
Bucks vs. Wizards
Milwaukee hasn't tasted any winning in the Las Vegas Summer League. The Bucks are 0-4 with double-digit losses to the Cavaliers, Clippers, and Suns. Andre Jackson is done for the Summer League with a finger injury, and MarJon Beauchamp has probably been the most disappointing player this season. Meanwhile, the only player who scored more than five points off the bench in the last game was TyTy Washington. There's no depth with this Bucks squad. On the other hand, Washington doesn't have the most offense, either. But I've been impressed with the Wizards defensively. Washington held the Kings to 69 points last time and limited Portland to 80 points prior. While Beauchamp has been one of the most disappointing players in the Summer League, Alex Sarr isn't far off. Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick, scored two points on 1-for-6 from the floor against the Kings. Before that, he went 0-for-15 against the Blazers and scored no points. Don't expect much offense in this game.
Pick: UNDER 183.5 (-110)
- Jason Radowitz
Pacers vs. Cavaliers
Both the Pacers and Cavaliers are probably eager for the Summer League to come to an end. Neither has played well and will enter this game with a 1-3 record. Cleveland’s 2024 first-round pick, Jaylon Tyson, has given fans something to be excited about. Against the Lakers Thursday, he was an assist away from recording a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. But it was a wasted effort, as the Cav’s lack of defense allowed a poor Lakers team to outscore them 93-89. It hasn’t been a strong summer for the Pacers either. They were productive on the offensive end through the first three games but couldn’t play defense. But in their last game (vs. Denver), they were terrible on both ends of the court (and against a poor team). When two poor teams meet, it is hard to justify picking one to win over the other. But in this case, they have both been scoring around 90 ppg but giving up 95. Take the OVER.
Pick: OVER 183 (-110)
- Travis Pulver
Knicks vs. Hawks
The best reason to watch the Knicks vs. Hawks game would be to see the No. 1 draft pick, Zaccharie Risacher, play. But a quad contusion kept him out Wednesday vs. the Lakers; he did not play in Friday’s game vs. the Bulls and will probably not suit up for this game. While it would be nice to win one, at this point, the Hawks may be ready to go home. The offense was on fire in Friday’s loss to the Bulls, scoring 99 points. However, the defense was non-existent, leading to a 103-99 loss. New York lost its first two summer league games but have stepped up their game enough over the last two to record a pair of one-point wins. Second-round pick Tyler Kolek has been turning in some good performances. In Friday’s win over the Pistons, Dmytro Skapintsev led the way with 17 points, ten rebounds, and three blocks in just 21 minutes. Atlanta has already thrown in the towel; but while the Knicks will win, take the OVER in what will almost certainly be a high scoring game.
Pick: OVER 177.5 (-110)
- Travis Pulver
Bulls vs. Lakers
The Bulls picked up a 103-99 win over the Hawks on Friday, and they needed overtime to do so. That’s bad news with the quick turnaround and no rest. And while Chicago won against winless Atlanta on Friday, it is because the Hawks shot themselves in the foot with 26 turnovers. Atlanta actually shot 50.0% from the field, and 45.7% from downtown, to just 46.4% for the Bulls, including 44.4% from behind the arc. Chicago also had a minus-11 rebounding margin. For the Lakers, all eyes will be on Bronny James, who has stepped up his game. For his teammates, Bronny is the lightning rod getting all of the attention, negative or positive, so there is very little pressure on them. The Lakers edged the Cavaliers 93-89 last time out on Thursday, getting to 2-2, and Colin Castleton shined with 12 points, seven assists and six boards. Look for L.A. to get the job done.
Pick: Lakers +3.5 (-110)
- Dan Dobish
Pelicans vs. Nuggets
The Pelicans are winless in four tries in Vegas, last falling 88-77 against the Grizzlies at the Pavilion on Thursday. The Nuggets tasted victory for the first time this summer, rolling 86-71 over the Pacers at Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday. Hunter Tyson shined for the Nuggs, posting 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including three triples. PJ Hall turned in a double-double, ending up with 10 points and 13 boards, while also blocking two shots. The frontcourt is strong for Denver, but the backcourt needs improvement. The Pels don’t have a lot of depth, but four starters had double-digit point totals Thursday. If NOLA can cut down on the turnovers, as it committed 18 miscues, it will be able to have success. This team outrebounded an unbeaten Memphis team by 11 last time out. The Pelicans aren’t far from having success, it just needs to make fewer mistakes.
Pick: Pelicans -1.5 (-110)
- Dan Dobish
Thunder vs. Mavericks
The Mavericks are coming off of their best performance of the summer on Friday. Olivier Prosper and AJ Lawson combined for 43 points in a win over the Celtics. A closer look at the schedule and you can see how they ended up 1-3. Matchups against the Jazz, Grizzlies and Heat pitted them against some of the best rosters in Las Vegas. They’ll get a Thunder team who has had similar results as them but they haven’t done much to impress as their defense has struggled allowing 98.7 PPG in their first three games before playing a Warrior squad sitting most of it’s best players on Friday. The Mavericks should have success scoring the ball against this defense, pulling away and covering this spread.
Pick: Mavericks -1 (-110)
- Ryan Rodeman
