Northern Ireland native Rory McIlroy is valued as the second betting favorite at +750 odds behind World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at +550 odds. Xander Schauffele’s win at Royal Troon last year, combined with his T8 finish at the Genesis Scottish Open last week, has boosted the defending champion to +2500 odds in the outright winner betting market.

Top 5 and Top 10 Bets for 2025 Open Championship
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Xander Schauffele – Top 10 (+225)
Links golf seems to be where Xander Schauffele is at his best. The 2024 Open Championship winner ranks seventh in SG: Approach this season, while matching his best finish of the year with a T8 at the Renaissance Club on Sunday.
Putting has been Schauffele’s weakness this year. However, he’s an elite ball-striker that should have plenty of confidence heading into Royal Portrush. Ranks 30th in driving distance, 45th on approach shots from 200+ yards and 34th SG: Tee-to-Green.
Viktor Hovland – Top 10 (+280)
Viktor Hovland has had an up-and-down campaign in 2025. The Norwegian golfer won the Valspar Championship back in March after missing three consecutive cuts.
In majors, Hovland has gone T21-T28-3 entering Royal Portrush. Last week, he shot 3-under-par or better in three of four rounds, leading to a T11 finish in Scotland.
Ranks second SG: Approach, 36th total driving, 21st proximity and fifth on approach shots from 200+ yards. With a birdie average ranked 18th on the PGA Tour, Hovland’s inconsistent putter is the only club holding him back from stacking more outright wins.
Russell Henley – Top 5 (+1100)
Russell Henley is another golfer playing extremely well in 2025. He jumped Collin Morikawa late during the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March to grab his first PGA Tour win since 2022.
Henley has eight top 10 finishes this year, including a pair of top 5 finishes in two of his last three events played. It’s important to note that he did not compete at the Genesis Scottish Open last week, so he’ll be making his debut on a links course at Royal Portrush on Thursday.
Ranks highly in many key metrics. Fifth total strokes gained, ninth SG: Tee-to-Green, 15th SG: Approach, 34th SG: Putting and first in proximity. Also 14th at finding greens in regulation and driving accuracy. It’s why he’s 15th in scoring average, 10th on par 4s and sports a 16th-ranked birdie average.
Bet on Henley to log his fifth top 5 finish of the season at +1100 odds in Northern Ireland this week.
Matt Fitzpatrick – Top 5 (+900)
Matthew Fitzpatrick is trending up just in time for the final major of the season. The Englishman has posted top 10 finishes in back-to-back events, including a season-best T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday.
The 30-year-old has recorded all three of his top 10 finishes since the PGA Championship in mid-May, totaling six events. He’s won a major before during the 2022 U.S. Open, which should also boost his confidence, while riding current momentum.
Ranks 54th SG:Putting, 14th for approach shots from 200+ yards and 15th in sand save percentage in 2025. Shot under par in all four rounds in Scotland, including a 63 (-7), so he should be relatively comfortable navigating the crosswinds at Royal Portrush.
