The PGA Tour departs from the West Coast and heads to Florida for the 2026 Cognizant Classic at PGA National this week. This par-71 course has been lengthened to 7,223 yards, with Bermudagrass on all surfaces.
Scottie Scheffler and most of the other big names in recent Signature Event tournaments will not be in this field at PGA National. That gives all 123 golfers great value in the outright winner betting market, led by Ryan Gerard at +1600 odds. Other notable favorites include Shane Lowry (+1600), Keith Mitchell (+2700), Brooks Koepka (+3000), and Will Zalatoris at +3500 odds.
Water comes into play on nearly every hole at PGA National. This includes its infamous “Bear Trap” stretch on Holes 15-17. Greens run 12 feet via Stimpmeter and measure 7,000 square feet, so proximity and tee-to-green accuracy are key. Rough stands at three inches, punishing errant lies.
My 2026 Genesis Invitational Picks & Predictions: Best PGA Bets turned a nice profit at 2-1. All three wagers placed at Riviera Country Club were in the Finishing Position market, cashing Tommy Fleetwood Top 10 at +210 odds and Collin Morikawa Top 20 at +110 odds. The loser was Hideki Matsuyama for a Top 20 finish, which, ironically, was the only bet taken at minus odds.
Here are three of my favorite best bets to place on the Cognizant Classic ahead of Round 1 from PGA National on Thursday morning. Follow me on X at Matt_MacKay_ for more free bets and PGA Tour analysis throughout the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Top 20 Finishing Position
Shane Lowry is among the best ball-strikers on the PGA Tour. He’s been consistent at PGA National during his career, logging four consecutive finishes at T11 or better.
In 2026, Lowry has a T8 at Pebble Beach and a T24 at The Genesis Invitational last weekend. He’s ranked 19th in SG: Approach, 43rd in SG: Putting, and also sits 24th for proximity.
As a result, Lowry ranks 21st or better for scoring average, par 4 scoring, and birdie average. He’s a textbook horse for this course.
Let’s bet on Lowry to card a Top 20 finish as our first best bet at the 2026 Cognizant Classic.
Pick: Shane Lowry (-125)
Top 20 Finishing Position
We’re going to stick with our bread and butter in the Top 20 Finishing Position betting market and target Will Zalatoris at plus odds.
Zalatoris has only played two events in 2026. He secured a T18 finish at The American Express during his season debut, followed by a missed cut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
Zalatoris will make his debut at PGA National this week. He’s ranked 12th in total strokes gained, including 25th in SG: Approach and 31st for proximity. Also ranks 29th in SG: Off-the-Tee, plus top ten marks for par 4 scoring and birdie average.
Putting is the primary weakness for Zalatoris. He’s solid tee-to-green, which is where most golfers tend to climb the leaderboard at PGA National.
Let’s pounce on Zalatoris, who is currently available to bet at plus odds to log a second Top 20 finish in 2026.
Pick: Will Zalatoris (+170)
72 Hole Matchbet Keith Mitchell vs. Michael Thorbjornsen
We’ll stray from the Top 20 Finishing Position props and dive into the 72 Hole Matchbet market for our final best bet at the Cognizant Classic. Let’s take a look at Keith Mitchell vs. Michael Thorbjornsen.
Mitchell won his lone PGA Tour event at this event, previously known as the Honda Classic, back in 2019. He’s had pedestrian finishes for the majority of outings in 2026, ranked 132nd in SG: Putting and 86th in proximity.
Conversely, Thorbjornsen has strung together a couple more impressive finishes. This includes a season-best T3 at the WM Phoenix Open, as well as a T18 at Torrey Pines.
The 24-year-old has only played at the Cognizant Classic once, securing a T39 finish last year. Thorbjornsen ranks 10th in total driving, 38th in proximity, and top 50 for scrambling and greens in regulation hit.
Mitchell is the veteran with more experience at PGA National. He’s also better on approach, however, Thorbjornsen has a more accurate driver and lands closer to the hole.
Oddsmakers are valuing Thorbjornsen as a slight favorite in this 72 Hole Matchbet prop. I agree, especially with Mitchell coming off a T42 finish at this event in 2025 and a T52 in his last outing at Pebble Beach.
Bet on Thorbjornsen as a marginal favorite to wind up with a better scorecard than Mitchell by the end of the 2026 Cognizant Classic.
Pick: Michael Thorbjornsen (-125)
